I'm guessing it'll be just like the window switch light which are led. I changed all my switches to white so I don't see why you couldn't do the same concept here and solder on a led replacement.

This is on my to-do list for Dec, and I also have a 96 GLE. I'll take pics if I get to it before you do.

I replaced mine... took about 10 minutes. Got the replacement part at Radio Shack. Another post on this board has the actual model number. The color of the light was the same as the original. This is an easy/straight forward fix!

Stickyzzzzzzz Interior - climate control LED swap. It's not too hard to take apart the switches ... some are easy, some will try your patience (and you have your g/f do those!) If there is a resistor there, you need one when you replace the LED, otherwise .... shouldn't need one. Also, you can check to be sure by using a meter. G'luck mate!

Cheers

so ... the switch is very similar for the LED swap. Point is ... the switch for the seats should be like doing the CC button on the dash. There may be 2 LEDs or just 1, don't know, never done those.

yup you're right, I just did them. the actual switch set up is different but the led set up is almost the exact same as the defrost/hazard LED's
just 2 copper prongs that the light slides onto, no need for a write up or pics here just hit this up > http://www.petah.org/maxima/hazard.htm
it'll tell you what you need to know.
only different thing for me was i put in 5mm LED so I needed to keep it more to one side(away from sliding switch). It's easy as pie.

i forgot to mention, for anyone who's thinking of putting an LED in to replace the bulb, as I did,
the - prong is the one with the small copper contact at the bottom of the prong.
ie. if you are looking directly at the old bulb head on, the negative side is the left, the positive side is the right.
looks great btw!

So that's a direct replacement no resistors needed all you need to replace is the bulb? Have you done it?

Tuner, great site. I never thought there was a LED inside the defroster switch, mine has never worked!! Now I have something to do this weekend.

I tried to do mine, but it had a piece of orange plastic, which when I removed looked weird and uneven, I dunno I never really played around with it.
