I searched for this problem but no luck so I'll start a thread. Ok here's the deal about 2 weeks ago I got in my car and went to open the sunroof because it was hot inside. Apon pushing the sunfoof button the glass slides back 3 inches and stopped. I thought that I didn't hold the button long enough for the auto open to kick in. So I pressed it down again and it went 3 inches and stopped. So in order to open my sunroof I have to hold my button let it slide 3 inches and let go and repeat until the window opens. (Same on closing) What do you guys think the problem is? Could it be a bad relay, switch, or some kind of sensor? Oh and just to mention the pop up button will slide the window back if I repeat the process above, along with the slide button popping the window up. My car only has 62k on it and my last car had 164k and had no problems with the sun roof at all. Is this a common problem with the 5 gens? Thanks in advance.

My 93 does this sometimes. On mine, I close the sunroof completely, then have it tilt up and vent, then close it again. Then open the sunroof and se if it works. This usually fixes mine but I do not have the factory Nissan sunroof. It is an aftermarket piece of **** sunroof. The problem is that the sunroof thinks that the glass is in a different place than it really is. If this does not work, try closing the sunroof completely, then disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Then try it again.

there is a sunroof relay way up under the dash....unplug it and leave it out for about 30 minutes or so. Shake it around and blow some air in it too.

I know this sounds wierd, but it worked for me when just removing and re-installing the relay did nothing....

here you go...in this pic looking up from the floor, that's the clutch pedal in the middle. See the gray boxy-looking thing in the upper left of the photo? It says "NISSAN" and some numbers on it. This is the sunroof relay. It's not covered by a panel or anything, you can see it if you kneel on the ground next to the car and stick your head down by the pedals.

Thanks irish44, I took your advise and took the gray box out. I removed the cover and it doesn't look at all like a relay, but after re-installing it my sunroof works.

I've had that issue a few times after my battery gets disconnected. After waiting a bit and restarting a few times, it goes back to normal. This is on an 02 however.

yeah, the process is different for the 02. the one I posted above is only for the 00-01. 02-03 has a reset procedure using the switch, IIRC.

correct...hold the tilt button forward till you hear a noise...its reset

Sorry to rez an old thread, but I bypassed the box, (which I believe is a E90 Circuit breaker) and still not getting any power at the sunroof switch.

Any ideas?

Yup. Sometimes my I35's sunroof freaks out when the battery is disconnected and reconnected. Just hold the tilt close button down for a second or two and that does the trick.

I do understand that and believe me, that is the first thing that I tried, but that doesn't work and also, there is no power to the switch at all. That can't be the solution.

My fuses and such look fine, I took out the E90 circuit breaker and bypassed it and it still doesn't work.

At this point, I am not sure where to look. Schematic seems to indicate that I should check the smart entry control. Can't seem to find power anywhere.

I had the same problem on my 01 se. I unplugged the battery and connected it and it worked fine
