300zx 30mm aluminum Caliper buying guide

VIP - This thread has been linked to the Brakes sticky and I'll bump it to the top occasionally.
irish

I have seen numerous threads about people trying to source 300zx 30mm aluminum calipers. also heard many stories about people getting the wrong size or material used. also i have read about some of the 240 guys getting mixed aluminum and iron calipers. This thread will take away all the confusion and help you source your calipers in less than 10 minutes.

So i am going to share with you guys my homework worth 10 hours and make it easier for everyone else to get a hold of these puppies......

Here is a quick break down of the calipers for the z32:

1990 NON Turbo used 26mm Aluminum
1990 Turbo used 30mm aluminum
ALL 1991-1992.5 (Turbo & non turbo) used 30mm Aluminum
ALL 1992.5-1996 (Turbo & non turbo ) used 30mm Iron

Extracting the key point here, as long as you look for calipers for a 91 Z32, you are guaranteed to get 30mm Aluminum.

Now if you are like me, the first place you go to to obtain a set is ebay. and you will quickly learn that this is the worst place to buy calipers for these reasons:

1) most of the calipers sold on ebay are used and must be cleaned & rebuilt
2) most auctions are bidding auctions which you have to wait 6-10 days to end. at this time you have to keep bidding only to find out that on the last day, someone outbid you by 0.50 and you wasted 6 days trying to buy a set
3) ebay calipers are WAYYYY overpriced, a set shipped to your house easily will set you back $300 and requires rebuilt and cleaning up. thats if ur lucky enough to win an auction.

therefore if you go the ebay way, you will overpay and waste a lot of time.

The best place to purchase a set would be an auto parts store (online or local). This guarantees that you get the right calipers, REBUILT, FAST and cheap. most cases $250 or less shipped for a pair. ready to bolt on.

there are only a few companies that rebuilt calipers for the z.
Unloaded: just the calipers, no pads no pins, nothing
Semi-Loaded: includings everything but pads. (pins and clips included)
Loaded: everything + pads.
you shouldnt worry about installation hardware......

30mm Aluminium Part # & Brand

there you have all you need. you can find A-1 Cardone and Beck Arlney @ almost any autoparts store.

The websites on the bottom use the same part # as the remanufacturer. just go there and order a set accordingly.

I also heard you can return your stock maxima calipers to autozone as "core" and they dont care. do at your own risk.

Nice post - brings together alot of the information that is in several different threads here in the 4th, 5th, and brakes/suspension forums.

Suggest when thread is stickied that the title be changed, though, to something that doesn't sound like its a n00b asking a question.

Great info! How is the quality of the product? Are these going to be as solid as OEMs or exceeds OEM quality? This definitely narrows down MY search for these calipers.

Thanks!

these are all remanufactured OEM calipers. they are not aftermarket.

one thing i would like to add is that you should definetly consider painting these calipers. most of them come in different color protective coating. for example, i ordered a set of beck/arlney (just like seen above) from autozone. one caliper was coated black, the other was coated silver. a1-cardone calipers come in different colors as well, gold/silver IIRC. so expect to spend 40 bux on G2 Caliper paint...

these are my own A1-Cardone calipers....... i got them for a steal of a price. $75 shipped EACH side !!!! for a total of $150

as you can see, they MAY be scratched and bruised. in my case, the other side, the letters have been shaved down by a very noticeable amount too....

yup, one of my cardone calipers has the "Nissan" all smushed down on the last two letters . Looks like they put the thing in a vise and smushed it when they were rebuilding it, FTL.

Yeah, plus when you make 'em that big people can tell that you need to repaint the "NISSAN" text.

Im assuming that the minimum rim size would be 16' correct or will it fit under the stock 4th gens 15s and a direct fit on the 4th gens

they will not fit under ANY stock maxima rims, because of offset.

I'd love to see the spacer that helps put Z32 brakes on a car with a 15" steelie.

7" spacer ftmfw!1
