Nooberish Cam Timing Question

On a 3.5 swap,
Using the 3.5 timing stuff
Pretending that the TVCs are locked in the right position
And trying to use a vq30 ecu
Do the different cam sensors (rear heads vs timing cover) make the 30 ecu unable to control it?
The cam timing signals are different, correct?
Am I missing any other problems?

You have to use the 3.0 timing equipment to use the 3.0 ECU, period.

Wow, thanks for the amazing answer.

How about actually answering my questions instead of being Mr. COCKy.

The fact that you don't like my answer doesn't make it any less true or relevant. The 3.0 ECU needs to read the bumps on the main intake cam sprocket to determine which stroke the #1 cylinder is on. Without that, it will never run.

Better?

I don't just give up when someone says there is no way..
Yes that answer was much better, I just wanted to verify the cam signals were different and now I know.

Lol *** jokes in the all motor forum. The only reason to use the full 3.5 with the ugly cover is VTCs. If you start modding crank-cam sensor positions and timing covers you will truly want to buy yourself a gun and shoot to kill. Believe me.

Is there no way to use a PWM box to power the solenoids? In combo with a piggyback? (all with 3.0 timing cover and ecu)

Driving variable cam phasers isn't like driving injectors. To correctly control cam timing there has to be a brain that knows exactly what the cam position is at all times to keep it close to the target value and is constantly comparing actual to theoretical to make changes based on that. Simple things like oil pressure and viscosity would be enough to throw the cam timing off without feedback control.

So basically there is no hope for us 3.0 TC guys. What a let down.

How much of a gain would we get from an rpm switch for the 3.5 VI?

it wasnt really a cocky answer, its been stated many times the 3.0 equipment needs to be used when your retaining the 3.0 ecu.

If you are determined enough by all means lead to way and show us a way to make it all work, were all open minded here, but we do know when were beating a dead horse.

It was cocky IMO
This is all I wanted to make sure of:

But I got:

I know you use the 3.0 timing equipment to use the 3.0 ecu. I just finished swapping it over on my friends 3.5 not to mention got spacers made on my own for much cheaper and went with him to Tilley's to have the cams drilled slightly retarded compared to the vq30DE cams per my request.
I understand why you can't use an additional injector driver or rpm switch.
I've been through all that.
It would have took less energy to write 'correct' and 'no' and I would have gotten more out of it.

Bottom line: If it was possible to use the 3.5 timing equipment with a 3.0 ECU it would've been done a long time ago.

If it could have been done easily it would have been done by now.

It is easy. Run a megasquirt, and bulid everything yourself. You'll be able to have a 3.5 w/VTC's and a 5spd tranny. Done deal. I hope you know how to engineer.

What I'm trying to say is, you will need to have a board built to utilize VTC's.

if youre up to doing that much work to use the 3.0 ecu, then why not just use an a33b ecu and not have to worry about it not working?

I read a post about using both ecus together but you would have to splice the harness to both, and for guys with the 3.0 TC I'm not sure if VTC would even work.

You would just have to run all the 35 wires and ecu.

I must have more powah! I must find a way to get vtcs working

I do have two ideas.
Both would use the 3.0 ecu and you wouldn't have to take off the 3.5 timing cover.
One involves a lot of machining and the vq30 timing sensor but no VTCs.
The other involves either a pic or a stamp to actually control the VTCs but then I'm not sure how to get the timing signal.
I'm just going to see how far I can get with it but at least I'm going to give it a shot.
