Dek Swap Progress

I started the DEK swap last night and had a couple problems. First I didnt have the egr guide tube but went to the junk yard and solved that. thanks guys, for the help on that. another was that I have wheel locks and lost the key so couldnt get the wheels off. So I couldnt get the cv axles out of the tranny to take it out. but I tried anyway and busted the boot on my driver side cv axle. So decided there wasnt any more I could do there. I had a spare cv axle at tha house but didnt know if it was good but found out it was when I got home last night. This morning went to discount tire where I used to work and got the socket they use to take off wheel locks with out the keys. Got mine off took the tranny out and the motor came out today too. Im still working I have 2 other de's that im trashing also so thats what the break here is for I had to go home and get the trailer to put all my junk on that im scrapping. I'll keep yall updated on progress. Motor and tranny are going in when I get back to the shop. yay! Oh and on one of my fuel injectors that orange plastic piece is missing, is this going to be a problem?

So today got the motor/tranny out, took everything off I needed swapped stuff over to the dek, and a friend that was over broke a bolt off in my flywheel. One of the pressure plate bolts that bolt into the flywheel. Is this a prob? I have all the others in there, its just missing one, I thought it would be fine. So almost have the motor ready to go in, putting subframe and all mounts back in. Oh also threw a short shifter in there today, we'll see how that goes.

Tomorro I plan on getting the motor/tranny in and start hooking everything up and hopefully get the intake on after I connect the injectors with the harness. Im a little worried about hooking all other hoses and all up the right way, any info yall have to help? that would help out a lot! well im out ill update tomorrow. - Matt

Interesting progress on the DEK install. I see you calling me but I’m at work all day long and we aren’t allowed to answer our cell’s while were at work, sucks.

I have an extra bolt for the flywheel, if you want PM me an address and I’ll send it down to you, It may just be one bolt but I wouldn’t want to risk it. So the car is starting now but not staying on? What are you going to do with the spare DE’s? just throw them away? Any parts left on them?

So she's up and running and drivable now?

spare de's are on a trailer in tact. destination: junkyard! not keeping much. timing stuff still on both. tho im thinking of taking one off.

she starts and stays on now. Thanks but I had bolts from my other flywheel to bolt the flywheel up. but my friend broke a bolt head off of the pp and the stud is in the flywheel..but there are still like 8 other bolts holding it on or 7 I dunno.

I have some vac leaks..and need to hook egr up. but she stays on I just have to get that adapter for the iacv from stephenmax. But im going to hopefully drive her today.

if your just going to junk yard the DE's let me know, I'll take them off your hands

You could temprarily wire up a window switch to open up the vi, till you get something to automatically open it up

I could help with the VI wiring up. I'll give you a call when I get off work.

so now after ridin around with the dek, it drinks gas like no other..could it be the egr not being hooked up right? or the gas tank ventalation thing not being hooked up? I think somehow that hooks up to the egr and then back to the intake? but none of that is hooked up and my gas is literally just evaporating or something

how are you calculating thats its drinking up gas? If your comparing economy before to now then dont worry. You'll drink more with the TS tune than your stock ecu.

pull plugs and see if there is gas on them.

spark plugs? gas on bottem? what if so? what if not? also ts isnt on yet. im calculating by how I went throug a 1/4 of a tank in like 30 miles. im going to go up to nissan and ask today about the egr/gas tank ventalation thing. And I dont feel much more power..that because I dont have switch to open up vi?

If the VI isnt opening up then the car wont feel much different than a DE, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Once you get that VI to open up you should feel that nice pull of power with the USIM wasn’t able to produce. Once you get the VI wired up and that TS in, you'll feel the power then.

You have a CEL?

that would have to be partially because of the EGR, I know when I didnt have mine hooked up I was running 278 a tank and now that everything is good to go and blah, I CAN run around 350ish, But I have also changed my driving habits...alittle.

No your VI isnt open, unless you wired up something to open it up then no its not. The 5th gen ecu would normally open it up.

what code are you getting?

please PM him or get at him on aim... I know you want to learn and understand more but you are bumping old threads that dont need to be. Look at each of the stickies in this all motor section. After you read thru these I promise you, you will know all you need to know. If you dont and you still have a question then make a new thread, but I bet you wont have a question at all
