Cross generation 5spd Swap

The car parting out is a 3rd gen chasis, 5th gen anniversary edition motor in it, and 4th gen 5spd transmission. I want the guy's tranny. Will the linkage and rods, etc. for the 3rd gens tranny set up fit in my 4th gen?

IIRC only the 4th gen and 5 gen anniversary edition tranny will fit 4th gens. I don't think any 3rd gen tranny parts will fit. Do a search.

What key words do you think I should type in to search for? lol. I haven't gotten any 3rds gen to 4th gen tranny swap.

so the tranny is a 4th gen, right? if i'm reading correctly, then of course it'll work... this third gen basically HAS a 4th gen engine and tranny, just like your car (it's a de-k but same difference).

Yea from you post I got 3rd gen body, 5th gen motor, 4th gen tranny. So Yes it will work as your 4th gen can use a 4th gen tranny.

That's what I thought. But I'm thinking though, the pedals are different, the support rod and the control rods are 3rd gen stuff also. I wonder if these rods and other misc pieces that basically go from the center console/actual shift ****, down to the actual tranny all line up the same in a 4th gen chasis. Will the drive shafts be interchangeable? These things are what i'm really curious about. I know the 4th gen tranny bolting up to my engine isn't a problem.

THis is a tranny swap. The most important parts of a tranny swap are the linkages and rods, etc that make your car a 5spd vehicle. If you get a busted tranny/gearbox, it can be swapped out easily. But if the driveshafts and rods off the 3rd gen don't fit in my car for some reason, then this is a no go.

are they definitely using stock 3rd gen linkages and things? i would think when they swapped in the vq that they would either have to custom make some stuff, or use 4th/5th gen parts. so unless all this stuff is custom made for this car, i'd still say you should be good to go.

No, I don't think they touched his linkages, etc. All they did was take down his tranny and motor. They put in the 5th gen motor, and the 4th gen tranny.

you'll need the clutch pedal and bracket, and check if the linkages are the same, they might not be. VG and VQ are similar, but i don't know how similar. Also, the manual tranny mount would have to be exchanged for a 4th gen mount. Your auto axles can be used for the swap, it's going from open diff to open diff.

Yessir, the clutch and brake pedal I know about. The mount, I'm gonna get as well. So it's the driveshafts I have to worry about and the linkages, control, and support rods....

So why in the hell does Hal's write up list the driveshafts in his parts list for the tranny swap?

Parts Needed:
5spd tranny (try and get the I30 LSD or Canadian Maxima LSD if possible – doubt it)
Both Manual drive shafts (if you have ABS you need specific ones, if you don't have ABS you can use ABS ones)
1 clutch kit (clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing)
2 shifting rods (support rod + control rod) (acquire used w/ all the hardware)
Return spring (connect to the 2 shifting rods (Buy this new, the stiffer the tighter your shifter feels)
1 5spd starter
1 shifter (Acquire used to get nuts and bolts (buy with the shifter rods)
1 shifter console piece (interior)
1 shift consul bracket (Replaces your auto one) (interior) (dealer name plate bolt and transaxle hole cover)
1 brake pedal
1 clutch pedal
1 master cylinder
Hydraulic lines for clutch
1 slave cylinder for clutch
1 extra set of tranny harnesses (might come w/ 5spd tranny)
1 18ga wire and wiretaps
Assorted cotter pin set.
1 Manual Fly wheel
1 Manual motor mount
Tranny Fluid (GL-4 or redline is preferable)
Locking pin and clip for the clutch pedal to the master cylinder (you could bend a nail but I would go to the dealer and pay $4)
2 nuts that fit the threads on the clutch pedal.
1 bolt that bolts in the top of the clutch pedal (the dealer can find it's size for you)
1 bolt that connects the control rod to the tranny (the dealer can find it's size for you)

i used my auto passenger's side axle, it worked fine, and Nismo3112 informed me it would work, that auto and manual axles are the same. My car has abs, and i used non-abs axles. My ABS is disengaged, but my car drives fine, and has one extra gear

Brake pedal is $75 new, clutch pedal same price, lol. That's all I know as far as the breakout.

Otherwise my friend bought a completely totalled 95 maxima for $500 5spd, and got the swap done for $300.

Cystum paid 1800 for vlsd tranny and all other 5spd parts included.

So i'd say 1,000 - 2,000. Shop around! I'm getting mine for like $1,200-$1,300 if this works out.

You SHOULD be able to use your auto axles in the swap, but i cant say it from experience, since I used my manual driver's side axle.

Again, i'm just pulling this from Nismo3112, as he said you can use both axles in the swap, you dont need the manual axles.

I need clarification on this. This is killing me. Can I keep both my non ABS automatic tranny axles or not? Get manual passenger side? Manual driver's side? I'm getting mixed answers here.

so this guy is parting out his max huh? got a link to it? last i heard he wanted to sell it whole till he ripped the x memeber off the rad suppt. if he used all 4th gen parts then itll work, i believe he had used 4th gen inner shafts and 3rd gen outer shafts to make it work, so his axles may not work out for you. the pedals are def different from 3rd to 4th. dunno about the linkages

good luck

Hey TJ if you even care i have a guy with a very big junkyard in Jersey. I asked him how much a tranny would cost and said i don't want more the 60-70k on it. He told me around 600-700 depending on alot of things. He said he'll give me the cheapest price he possibly can. He's a very good person, so if you'd like i can find out. Hit me up here or on NYC if your interested.

P.S. He specializes in Nissan's so he can also get you other parts...

Aside from the tranny and linkages. I need to know if I can keep my axles. Mforrest kept both his, he has no ABS, like me. SO maybe it will work.
