HELP, sunroof stuck open!

My sunroof is stuck all the way open (not the tilt position, but the sliding position). I hear the motor running when I try to close it. At this point, I just want to close it quickly. I'll worry about fixing it later. Thanks!

Open the plastic panel near the sunroof controller. There is a tool in the spare-tire tool kit to use that you can crank to shut the sunroof. If you have an owners manual, it should be on one of the pages.

If you can't find the tool - you just need a large hex wrench.

I tried that just now, and it cranks but doesn't close the sunroof. I'm thinking that something is just not connected. I even tried to pull the sunroof closed, but it doesn't seem to budge. Any other ideas?

Is there something visibly in the way of the tracks?

Not that I can see. Everything looks normal, but there must be some sort of cable or something that is disconnected. I really don't want to pull the roofliner apart if I don't have to. I just need to get this thing closed. This sucks!

Have you tried just holding the switch to just "open" the sunroof (even though it is). Sometimes this might reset the linkage, you'll know when the sunroof motor stops making noise. Then see if you can close it using the botton.

Yeah, I tried that too, hoping that it will re-catch itself, but it didn't. When looking at each side of the sunroof, I see a metal type cable (which doesn't seem to be in the way of the tracks). Maybe it's just unhooked at the end? No way for me to know for sure.

Yup, I'm afraid I'll have to take the whole roofliner apart and remove the sunroof. I'll be doing this blind, as I've never done anything like this before. I won't even know what part(s), if any, I'll need to replace. Anyone in the Boston/Wrentham area wanna help me out? I'll buy you a case of beer!

There is a thread somewhere around here that walks you through the entire sunroof rebuild and repair... do a search for it.. it might even be in the stickies.

Anyone know a shop in the Boston area other than the dealer where I can get this fixed? I really don't want to do this myself. Even if there is a place that will just close the sunroof for me, that's all I really need. I'll then disconnect the switch at that point.
