I finally finished the how-to write-up for "Ptatohed's back seat fold up mod"!

Some of you may remember my original thread from 3 years ago explaining my back seat fold-up mod. It is a mod to allow your rear seat to fold up (folding down will not work, I tried) to allow for transporting large items. Well, please don't ask me why it took three years to complete the write-up but I am finally done! Enjoy.

Here is a direct link to the write-up hosted on vqpower.com.

Original thread from 3 years ago.

I know nobody likes a thread without pictures so I'll re-post some here:

Rear seat cushion fully closed:

Rear seat fully open (90 degrees):

Rear seat fully closed - bike does not fit!

With ptatohed's back seat fold-up mod, bike fits:

Interesting. I always thought the plate behind the seat was welded in. That's the way my other cars without folding rear seats were. Hey, does anyone know if Infiniti or Lexus has this same setup? The lack of a folding rear seat has kept me from getting a good used luxury car.

Yes sir. Fully reversable. You will see that in the write-up.

Slimer Steve,
If you mean by simply taking the rear plate off, then no. If you mean when the seat is in an open position, then yes. You will hear increased road noise and even the gas sloshing around (I mention this in the write-up) when the mod is in use but the sound level goes back to normal once the seat is returned to its original position and the mod is not in use.

Understood. It isn't that bad with the upper seat in a partially open position (ex. while using the mod to transport a long item) - perhaps a 20% increase in noise. But if you decide to take both seats out completely - woe, watch out - there is a 400% increase in noise.

I can't open the writeup.
The pdf link wouldn't open for me either. But if you right-click on it and save as, it'll download.
The PDF file wont open if you trying to use it in FIREFOX. Use internet Explorer instead.

Does removing the plate behind the seats weaken the car at all? what about in a rear end collision?

old thread....

but i'd assume if you get t boned it would weaken it. Buts its not a frame feature...its to keep the seats from folding into the trunk by some fat "***".

Hush you ... your steering wheel is on the wrong side! ROFL

Good question, but I don't think it would - as mentioned, it's not a part of the frame support of the car (well .. ok, mabye the interior of the car anyway).
