battery and brake light on????????

any suggestions why my battery and brake light would be on? the alternator is good, battery is good as well as the fuse. the battery is holding a charge and the alternator is doing its job, its not overcharging. and i figure its not under charging because the battery is at 12v

if anyone has any knowledge on this subject please let me know, i've been rubbing my head for 2 days now.

thanx

Weak alternator? Get both alternator and battery tested at an auto store (some do it for free)

lol so thats what those lights mean? it did it once weeks ago, hasnt came back since, expcept tonight

why would nissan make the brake light come up in conjunction with the battery light to signal a bad alternator?

Most likely the alternator, but you can have it tested for free at wal-mart.

Your battery should be around 13.5-14 volts with the car on. If it's only at 12v then your alternator is junk. And as for the brake light being on too, it's just how Nissan designed the electrical system.

My wife's maxima did the same thing last week Tuesday. She was able to drive it about 5 miles, then the car died. Brake and battery light is Nissan's way of saying you need a new alternator.

I replaced the alternator and all is fine now. Good idea to check your belts and also the tensioner at the same time when you replace the alternator.

If you're getting the brake and battery lights it means your car is receiving less than 12 volts. As mentioned above your alternator should be putting out more then 12 volts to keep everything charged. Sounds like time for a new alternator.

Hey so what if just your BRAKE light is on? Mine's come on recently, but no battery light or anything.
