Mounting Points for 00vi + 4th Gen Lower Intake Manifold..PIC provided

where do I/should I drill the holes into the 00vi (what is recommended)?

and the two bolts on each Lower Intake Manifold End are blocked by the rectangular holes you see on each end of the 00vi..So I guess i drill a hole to make way for those 2?

Use the gasket as the template. I know you have to turn the lower IM around and 2 of the middle holes line up so you dont need to drill in the lower IM.

ok so i drilled the two holse on the outside but now..what kind of bolts did you guys run through the:

a. the long red rectangles
b. the two green circles (there is a weird bolt mounted to the lower intak emanifold already, and it fits through the hole, but does not extend very far past the upper intake manifold. i could fit probably fit a nut onto it, but it will only go around 1-2 threads)

suggestions?

The 2 bolts in the red rectangles I got at Menard's. I had to enlarge the holes for the bolts to fit through.. They thread right into the 4th gen lower IM though.. The 2 bolts on the side were also purchased at Menards.

BUT if you want to use the factory bolts that normally go in the middle 2 holes, you will have to use helicoils or keenserts(sp?)

BTW.. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN any of these bolts!! You will risk stripping the threads!

what size helicoils will work? the ace hardware store gave me these ones that just look like they are for re-threading, not making an 8mm hole a 6mm. Kevlo, how many bolts do you have holding down your VI? a total of four then? If only two line up, do you just disregard the other two that dont line up?

I have the 5th gen lower, but I read people only using the 2inner and 2 outer and it worked fine.

damn, i placed an order for those bolts already, i guess i have to cancel yet ANOTHER order. i accidently ordered an EGR Guide Tube that I already had, and now accidently ordered bolts that wont fit w/o inserts.

btw: what are the bolt size that will fit the inner 2 holes for the 4th gen lower?

I dont know off the top of my head, but they should be the same thread pattern as the 2 studs on each end of the stock 4th gen lower... Take one of those out and go to the hardware store to match it up.

the inner bolts going into the LIM is 8 mm, but I don't know the thread pattern/spacing

i think what i will do is buy bolts (oem or home depot/etc) and just enlarge the two inner holes (red rectangles) present on the upper intake manifold to fit a ~4.25" 8 mm bolt to go through..i dont think rethreading the red rectangle holes inside the upper intake manifold matters, so long as the lower intake manifold has the threads, and the force from the bolt cap up top will hold it down.

So to get things straight, the two outer holes were lined up by drilling the actual upper VI matching it to the 4th gen lower IM correct?

Also, I assume Menard's is a local hardware place. What size bolts exacly are needed using this method? im going to also open up the holes on the VI upper.
