How many of you have actually replaced their fuel filter in their 4th gen. ?
Which brand did you get and from where and about how much you paid ?
i have read the stickys for the fuel filter but they are a lil outdated....
Thanks

go with the 300zx fuel filter...it costs the same as the oem 4th gen maxima filter...but this one is bigger and will last twice as long...

I did this on my 4th gen and its a direct bolt on...

ok, but from what ive read, the installation will be hard if i have abs, Which i do.
and installation will be super hard if i want to put a 300zx filter with abs...
But i am inclined to do this myself and not let the stealership take anything from me...
What do you recommend to do ? If the 300zx filter where should i get it from ?
Thanks

Removal and install are the same whether you have ABS or not, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Neither is harder than the other.

ABS was a big B!tch when i did mine...i actually hated the fact that i had abs when i did mine...my advice...heave like a **** and dont forget to twist the the top hose first...when u get that off get under the car...(make sure ur face is protected and ur clothes are ones u can get dirty) and pull on the filter itself...it helps to have a second pair of hands to pull away from u...

took me an hour but thats because no ones ever changed the fuel filter in this thing...i used OEM nissan for 4th gens too...i heard the only benefit is it lasts longer...i dont think fitment would be an issue but the space and how ur gonna replace the hoses might be a problem....stick with the 4th gen filter and save urself the trouble...

another thing to think about is...if its hard to put in the 300zx filter...how hard would it be 60k later??

They don't cost very much if you buy aftermarket. I can buy an aftermarket one for Cdn$14.12 (corporate discount) vs Cdn$32.99 at the stealership. So I imagine you can get one for about US$12 or thereabouts. Don't sweat the small stuff! Just go out and buy the damn thing at Pep Boys, Autozone or whatever you have. There must be hundreds of auto parts places in Chicago.

You're fretting about nothing. Get a life, lol!

Just go to your local Nissan dealer and buy a filter - 15 bucks.

I called them and asked how much it would cost and they said a fuel filter for a maxima (not 300zx) cost $21.

So back to where I came from, either cough up the $21 or buy an aftermarket fuel filter. It's hardly worth fretting over and ordering one over the internet with the associatd shipping costs and delay.

I have ABS and it was pretty easy to install. I'm no mechanic either. I got one from Autozone for $11.

Well, i installed that 300zx fuel filter. Took me about 1-2 hours but im not complaining.
I also have ABS. Only thing that was hard about it was unplugging the top and bottom tubes(and yes, Ive cranked the engine more than enough times to relive the pressure).
