It is a closed loop control. Any clues to what that means? It also came with engine codes 0304 and 0608. My car is a '95 GXE auto with 85.5K on the odometer. The only mods is a Stillen intake. i do have a stereo system. any advice is greatly appreciated. oh, some symptoms are that it idles at 500 to 600 rpms and shakes bad, has smoke comming out of the exhaust pretty badly at times, and i've averaged between 8.5 to 5 miles to the gallon. recent repairs have been a new starter and new fuel injector. i have been using 87 ghetto gas for awhile and switched to chevron 89 about a 6 weeks ago and just switched to chevron 92 two weeks ago. i just filled it up with 92 and used a fuel injection cleaner. thanks.

0307 - Closed Loop Control
0304 - Knock Sensor
0608 - Cylinder 1 Misfire

8.5 miles to the gallon is outrageously bad.

Diagnostic Trouble Code 0307 points to a problem with the Engine Control Module Closed Loop Logic for the Left Bank. The left cylinder bank is also called the front bank. It is cylinders 2,4,6.

DTC 0307 is detected when the closed loop control function for the left bank does not operate even when the vehicle conditions meet the criteria (engine at normal operating temperature, etc.). Possible causes include ...
- Harness or connectors (The sensor circuit is open or shorted.)
- a defective Front Heated Oxygen Sensor sensing element.
- a defective Front Heated Oxygen Sensor heater.

You posted this trio of codes on 4/23/01. At that time you were given specific instructions for diagnosing the problem(s). Did you carry out those tests? If so, please post the results. If not, why are you coming back for more advice if you didn't use what was already given?!?

i had brought my car to my father's while i was out of town and he had it checked out on the computer and then replaced the fuel injector. the check engine light went out right after that and hasn't come on until now. i assumed that the fuel injector was at fault and since i had it replaced, it'll be all good. i checked all the plugs this morning and they are all fine. oh, and the codes 0304 0608 are the same, but i also had 0201 at the time but that is now gone and 00307 replaces it. could i be getting these codes due to a faulty factor O2 sensor like some people on the board have posted?

If you have the time and interest, exchange the two front Oxygen Sensors and reset the Engine Control Module. Then drive normally and wait for the Check Engine Light to go on. When it does, do another Diagnostic Trouble Code readout. If you get 0308 (Right Bank Closed Loop Control) instead of 0307, the Flame Of Blame falls on the Oxygen Sensor.

Metal Maxima, I recently changed my front O2 sensors, reset the ECU, and the codes returned. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
