Quick questin...

Hi I am new to this board, I did a search but it won't let me do a search so I decided to just post my question.. My brother in law owns the car, I'm just here to maintain the car for him since he is gone for awhile, my wife is the one who's driving his car for now.

Here's the thing, my in law owns a '92 maxima but he baught the chilton manual for the year '93-'98. My question is, does the 3rd gen maxima have the same engine as the 4th gen? Will I be able to use the 4th gen manual to do some maintainance on his '92? That's all 4 now..

Thanks..

Here is some basic info about the car:

The 89-94 Maxima is the 3rd gen. The 89-94 GXE has the VG30E motor. The 89-91 SE has the VG30E motor. The 92-94 SE has the VE30DE motor (the greatest).

The 95-99 Maxima (4th gen) has the VQ30DE motor.

With your 93-98 Chilton's manual, you need to be sure it has your motor in it. It will cover some stuff with your relative's car, but make sure it isn't talking about the 4th gen Maxima.

I have the Chilton's that covers the 92 Maxima and it has some VE30DE info in it. But if you really want to be sure, get a 1992 factory service manual. Look on ebay for it. It should cost you anywhere from $20-$60. Don't pay more than $60 for a new one.

He might have a VE due to the fact the VQ looks similar. Easily to be confused especially if you don't know much about maxima's.

You might want to go down to your local napa or auto zone and look at the other chilton manuels... bc i too have the chilton but its for the 89-93 and that has the VG and the VE engines in it so you'll want to look and pay close attention to the model nubmer for the engine since it sound to me like your bro in law might have picked up the wrong manuel... if thats so then you'll just need to get the one before it
