Injen Filter swap

I recently purchased a K&N filter in a GD from cobymoby, an excellent price of 27.00 shipped.
Since I had this filter I decided I would switch the original Injen filter, which was smaller with this new larger K&N.
Once on, I test drove it, and was very surprised of the difference it made.
I wouldnt have thought that a larger filter would have made a noticable difference but it did.
Before, whenver I punched the car it kinda had a lag or hesitation in RPMS below 3k. It seemed like a bog kinda.
(No,my throttle body is not dirty. Ive cleaned it many times. I even experienced this after my motor swap with a freshly cleaned throttle body and new plugs)
I always thought that it was due to the longer piping of the intake and their being a slight delay in the air being sucked from down low and making it to the MAF.
I experienced this from the first moment I installed the Injen and had just come to live with it.
I really liked the Injen because of the way it pulled right at 3k and continued upward. I just didnt care for the lag, or boggy feeling in the lower rpms when I punched it.
I would just wait untill the rpms hit 3k before I really floored it.
With the K&N, I have immediate throttle response with no delay or boggy feeling. All that I had experienced before is now gone. Acceleration is really smooth now from the moment I punch it.
I wouldnt think a larger filter would really make a difference, but it did.
The Injen filter is small. I realized that the moment i got it. I had a Stillen popcharger before, and its filter was much larger.
Im just guessing that maybe with the smaller filter I was choking the motor a bit?
Maybe its just my setup with the Gforce ecu needing more air to compensate for the air/fuel curve?
Anyone else have a similiar experience just by swapping filter sizes?
Heres a pic to compare the filter sizes...

I did the same thing, got the same filter a couple of months back, and it definetly made a big difference. Even the sound of the car changed... Enjoy

interesting. makes sense to a degree. the bigger filter has more surface area, but if the injen was large enough for the engine, then the k&n will just last longer. but hey if it makes a noticable difference.

Same thing for me. Took my Injen out of the box and immediately pitched the filter for a larger one.

Thats good to hear. I knew I couldnt have been the only one.
Its just kinda weird that just going to larger filter would have made such a noticable difference. Im glad it did though, i like how my car drives now.

I think it has to do with the filter. I may be wrong but i dont think K&N makes the filter for the injen. Maybe thats why?
Im still using the one that came with the injen, maybe i should look into it... didnt think it would make that big of a difference. Cool that it did... enjoy.

This is the info supplied by cobymoby when he was selling them. The filters were sold out of boxes so I didnt see any part numbers.Thats is how we got them so cheap.

did you have any fitment issues? How tight is it by the radiator? I also feel alot of lag under 3k rpm and want to buy another filter while the deal is still goin on. If you got a pic of how it looks under there, that would help alot

Thanks.

I got the same filter as Flavor, it fit pretty tight, but I doesn't rub against the fans or anything. You have to put it from under the car, there's no way you gonna drop it like the Injen one from the top of the engine bay, just too big. I though it was a sweet deal for a K&N filter and it does the job well.

Yeah I swapped my filter today for a "Monster Air Flow" one that I got from Autozone was like 24 dollars or something, MUCH bigger than the Injen, it was a bi*ch to get in there but I got it to fit from the top because on the bottom I have that plastic cover which I couldn't remove, it fit really really tight it's touching the transmission cable but it's not touching the fans or nothing. In respect to throttle and what not I guess I noticed a little diff. nothing major though.

When I changed out the filter that came with my PR CAI I could hear the difference but I doubt it made my car any faster.

I dont know why you have problems putting the Injen filter on, mine would go on real easy. I could even slip it on all the way to the top of the filter. I would slip it all ther way on, then pull it back till the piping tip was even with the red silicone lip under the filter. Then I would just clamp it down right there. No real issue.

The K&N has to be put on from underneath. I basicly just jacked one corner of the car up, crawled under, slippped it on, and tightened from above.
Took about 2 minutes.
