I don't think that NOS is a "fair" mod, its like cheating.

so then you would consider having a turbo or supercharger cheating too? boost is boost in my opinion and nitrous is boost for those of us that can't afford a s/c or turbo...i used to not consier it a fair mod but i have never really considered a car on any form of boost vs. an N/A car a fair race...its all just a matter of opinion

My thoughts on NOS is it is cheating. Its like Pac Man with a power pellet. Once it runs out you're a slow bastard again.

Exactly. It's all about when and how much you use.

Don't gotta worry about that with a S/C or Turbo.

Just curious? When you use NOS and win a street race what exactly do you guys win? Aside from that there must be some negative side effects of using it? Doesn't it work the engine a hell of a lot harder? I dunno but it seems to be expensive, risky, and just going to cause a lot of high speed accidents especially with all the kids using it.

You win MONEY! I've never seen anyone ever race for a "pink slip" before.
Of course the engine is worked harder with NOS, 80+hp instantly is hard for any engine. NOS can be expensive depending on what you get, I've seen $500 to $2000(something like those numbers)

It all comes down to dollar per horse power. Nothing beats nitrous for that. Why is that cheating? If you spent the same money that a nitrous system cost on any other power adder's and we raced the 1/4 mile and I won (The nitrous car would win for sure), why is that cheating? To me its just smarter!

Nitrous, the smart racers power adder!!

why do they make bottle heaters for NOS tanks but they dont make bottle coolers? i read on there site that if the tank is cold it makes the fuel a little richer and you lose optimum power but its not dangerous to the engine... but on the other hand if its hot the fuel is lean and you could damage the engine... and it shows that at 97 deg the pressure is 1069... when the proper pressure is supposed to be bet 900-950... and i dunno bout u but in NY during the summer we can see this type of temp. especially in the trunk... so is there a way to cool the bottle too?

I take a wet chamios or towel and put it over the bottle. The evaporative effect helps some. I run ~1050psi, Thomas runs 1200psi, we both use a .047 nitrous jet and about the same fuel pressure, he gets MUCH more power than me but runs a little leaner. Running a smaller 0.036 jet, wich the basic kit comes with, pressure aint that big of a deal. You will get less power when its colder and more when its warmer. However the seals nitrous solinoids will wear faster with higher pressure. Ive never heard of any one losing a seal to this but they are not designed to operate with really high pressures.

Hm... I think that the extra power would be worth the risk.

Just remember not to p*ss off anyone that has a gun, your car might just go BOOM in a gigantic ball of GREEN FLAME.

Use it only if you're losing the 1/4 mile.

BTW I don't beilve the 1/4 mile is real racing. It don't take much brains to tell a mechanic to make your car fast then stomp on the accelerator for 15 sec. Try sliding past a Mustang that thinks he can take a 90 degree corner on grip alone faster than you can slide.

But seriously, I think NOS is a great idea when used correctly.

Just think of how much money you're making the mechanics who get to rebuild all those blown engines... NOTE: This doesn't refer to everyone, but if you don't think a good portion of the people who bought nitrous after that movie and put it on mom's old Camry or something are going to blow their engine, you're living in a dream world. The members of this board are rather good when it comes to nitrous installs, and that's due to the people's skill and the strength of the engine. Check out some other car forums, people who don't put in nitrous correctly and use it correctly are blowing their engines real quick.

I agree with Veggie on this one. Drag racing is fun but to me isn't racing. I'd rather take another car on some deserted twisties somewhere, now that would be a challenge. Recently mixed it up with a new WRX on I495, now that's exhilirating. As for NOS, it's ok. I'd definitely prefer a supercharger or turbo. Another thing, at the right amount of PSI a supercharger actually protects your engine. Acknowledgeable folks will know.

I was all hyped up after seeing Loren's Maxima with 100shot. After seeing Fast and furious, I swore to myself I would get the Nos kit in no time.

However, the mot died down after seeing some other stuff I really want.

How About A Rocket That Flips Out Of The Trunk??

How about a rocket? Anyone remember Cannonball Run?? Remember the Subaru with the Japanese drivers?? That was funny when they were in New Mexico, got stuck in a sand dune... the next thing you see is the hatchback opening and two doors flipping up... after that the rocket comes up and off they go! The next scene showed them shoveling sand out of the car.
