What's the cause of ABS failure?
All this time I thought my 99 Maxima wasn't equipped with an ABS feature. When my mechanic was installing my '00VI he told me that my ABS was in the way of putting the stock intake back on. I was shocked, but why has my ABS not been working??

I'm sorry but I believe that mechanic doesnt know what he's talking about. There is a ABS sensor under the hood but its no where close to being in the way of the intake.
And if your car had ABS, why would nissan design such a part to interfere with others?
Does the ABS light, illuminate when you put your car to the "on" position?

The only thing that could get in the way is the ABS pump which gets in the way of the fuel filter... but it only makes it slightly harder to get to......
He said it was in the way of putting the intake back in...........and???? Did he remove it????????

Well after putting in the '00VI, the 5th. gen TB that was used was at a different position (further back). the MAF now gets in the way and doesn't fit. only solution is a short ram intake or CAI. which obviously takes up less space in width.

If your mechanic if who i think it is . He doesn't know much but anyway. You can tell if you have abs by the ligh on your dash. if it wasn't functioning the light would be on

because the wheels locked when I broke hard a couple of times. i figured that's why i don't have ABS.

I've broke hard many times and locked up, I have ABS. ABS eqiped vehicles can still lock up.
If the ABS light, lights up then you have ABS, or more painstakingly, lift the car and look at the back of the hub and see if the ABS ring is on your axle.

I went to this accident-avoidance class put on by my insurance company several years ago and I know that when the ABS kicks in it gives off this really sick and weird cycling crunch noise that sounds like you've broken something. Funny thing is, from what I remember, every time I went down the track at a good clip I never locked the tires. I was always able to steer away from an obstacle. Other non-ABS cars that were in attendance would lock up and nearly go off into the bushes.
