Maxima top speed?

So I was drivin pretty spirited last night and thought I'd get goin fast on an open road. I always thought maxima's were governed at 136, but I hit 142 before I slowed it down, and yet I think it would be good for a few more mph. Anyone know the exact speed?

I had always thought that it was around 140-143 or so. imho that is a very unsafe speed in the Maxima. I got it up to 125 a long time ago when the car was new, and it felt very floaty. I've driven a Porsche to just under 150 and got caught--in NYS. Was not worth it, the fines and classes and revocation etc. I now have to drive without a license, but this is Philly. If a councilman can do it for over 10 years, why can't I? just kidding

My advice to everyone out there is to not try to take the Maxima to its top speed. just my .02

The fastest i've been in my maxima is a little below 80, and i dont plan on going any faster than that, but it's nice to know that i could go 140+ though.

I think the fastest I've been was 120 but I'm not sure. I only went that fast the first night I had the car .

don't speedometers tend to be alittle off when you get to that high of speed? So maybe around an indicated 143 you are at 140? I also think that is too high of speed without suspension and braking upgrades.

My friend with a 96 SE stock (with system) hit an indicated 142

I barely wind it out past mid-third gear, things start to get serious fast

The D2 suspension takes alot of drama out of things I'll tell you that.

I actually feel that the Maxima is fairly stable at high speeds. I am not saying that it is a speed demon, but compared to most of my friends cars, non-maxima, it is pretty smooth..

Anyways,
The fastest I have ever driven is about 130 when I had 4 people in the car and tires with less than 1/32nd of tread on the tires. After I realized how stupid that is, I don't usually go up over 130. But when I was braking from going that fast, I nboticed a noise coming from I think the brakes. Is this normal? It sounded like a low grind, but not squeky like worn out brakes. Is this just heat?

i raced a CBR600RR going to chico and topped out my car at over 140 (speedometer went past 140), i was going at around 6400 RPM, since then, never attempted to try to max out my car...and probably never will...

no i was really cruise'n at 160 i found a long str8 road and i sprayed the whole time till i got up to 160 mph and i didnt want to push it anymore to i let off cuz i was running out of road if i found a longer road i could prolly get up faster than 160 but at those rpm levels you run the risk of your motor going BOOM!

Supposedly, a manual 4th gen runs out of gearing at 137mph, according to a post by SteVTEC.

what a brilliant idea! You were lucky nothing bad happened.
