Switch Over to Full Synthetic - Too Many Miles?

I've been running 4+ qt's of Castrol + 1 qt of Castrol Syntec in my Maxima for about 12K miles and changing every 4K miles. I have about 45K miles now. I'm contemplating moving over to full synthetic whether it be Castrol or Mobile 1. I remember some concerns about having too many miles on your car and doing the switch because of sludge, leaking seals, etc. Is 45K - 50K miles too high to make the switch?

Thanks.

I bought my car with 40k miles on it, and I'm fairly sure that the previous owner was using whatever dino or dino/synthetic blend that the dealership buys. I only use Mobil 1 SuperSyn 5w30 now, and I'm at 48k miles. No problems that I can see so far.

Just make sure its a proven syn or it could really mess with your engine.

Good to hear from a fellow Alabama native - I know Mobile 1 is a "proven synthetic" how about Castrol? Just curious, I'll probably go with Mobile 1 anyway.

I've never made the switch, I've always used full synthetic from day 1. I made the mistake of being over in my oil change this last time, and changed it this past weekend. My car came alive all of a sudden. It's running really strong, and gas mileage looks alot better. I have to stay on top of this so I can get the same results everytime.

You are refering to old info which doesn't apply to late model cars. Dino oil and Syn are completely compatible, therefore you can switch at any time and go back and forth if you like. Go with Mobil1 and don't look back. Check out bobistheoilguy.com for more info.

You can switch at any time really, just not really high mileage. yoru mileage isnt that high. But i wouldnt just switch right away. Do a blend. 4 quarts regular, then 1 syn, then next oil change 3 quarts reg then 2 quarts syn then 2 quarts reg and 3 quarts syn and so on. I agree with bladerunr about mobil1. That's all i use. It also must say something if that's what a lot of corvettes come off the assembly line with it in

Try a synthetic blend for one rotation and see how that goes.

I did that @ 50K on my 96 w/ no problems. After that, it was al Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 ok,but I'd go with AMSOIL. They have been producing fully synthetic oils since the mid 70's. It is all I will run in my car. You can go up to 25k miles or more without changing the oil. You only need to change the filter every 6k miles or so. Check it out. Amsoil

AMSOIL is the best oil for powersports too. I run it in my dirtbikes and my buddies do the same. Some of them also run it in their sleds but i run polaris lube. i on the other hand did not know that they made oil that could be acceptable for cars. Thats cool.
