I did mine suface mount on the black plastic above the door panel. It looks
factory without cutting the door panel.

I've got mine mounted on the pods I made for the 6.5s. They're directional and not suppose to be too far from the mids anyway, so what the heck. No torn/tearing door panels. No extra wire routing. Perfect staging for me. It was a win/win.

I mounted mine on the black sail panel at the front of the door (inside right where the side mirrors mount on the outside)

I actually like the color of the tweeter surround It matches the tweed... it's sort of a graphite type color

Tucker, it would help to know whether you are talking about rear components or the front.

I'd consider on the plastic triangle that covers the outside mirror screws

Speaking of all this, for those of you with 6.5" in the fronts what kind of mounting depth is available ? Do we have like 3" (which hopefully would take care of a lot of component sets)?

If you're not concerned about holes in your panels, I mounted mine right in the beginning of the pertrusion of the panel, where it meets the lines of the dash. See my cardomain page for images.

You should have almost 4" inches in the stock location, if you mount them correctly. Don't forget wire and crossover clearance, as well. And remember... measure twice, cut once.
