00VI Swap Photo Gallery
Im going to be doing the 00VI swap in a month, maybe two. While collecting some information, I have made a gallery of photos I have pinched off the org. If anyone recognizes a photo and wants it removed just let me know.
The gallery is mainly to help my dumb butt get an idea of what the heck I am supposed to do.
Also if anyone want to take the time to include more photos in this thread with some details of the photo I can add it, and eventually build it up as some sort of resource for everyone to use. Im sure my gallery could use some more detailed descriptions as I dont know much.
Also if certain photos belong to org members here dont mind putting up your name. Example im sure Stephenmax has a few photos of swaps he has done or his IACV adapter plate, can just fill in the blanks were necessary.
If no one gives a hoot, this will have to do for me as well as all newbies searching for oovi imformation

Wow that's a lot of pics there... Do you have enough info yet or do you still want me to reply to your messages?
One note though on the SUmmit switch wiring diagram.... there is no relay needed to activate the VI. (I know this won't apply to you Ceasar since you're not using a Summit but for others...)

I started work on a 00VI swap guide a while ago, but never finished b/c I just got too busy and had to take care of other priorities like the stuff I needed to do to get the car ready to race this year.. lol
But I hope he doens't have to deal with the swirl valves. I doubt they'll have them there in NZ.

hey ceasars chariot-
which route you going w/ this? and do you mind keeping that 00vi photo gallery up for a while?
so as somebody, like dandy, who started the 00vi install but then due to unfortunate circumstances reverted back to the stock intake manifold, i can offer you some advice that i think would be beneficial. so i had a 4th gen lower, 5th gen upper, egr guide tube, 5th gen TB. but when i install the 00vi next time i think i will use the 4th gen TB and IACV.
so learning from what i've done so far:
-if you're using the 5th gen TB, there is a bracket that i removed. in pictures 4 and 5 on your picture page, it is to the left of the EGR guide tube and is holding the UFO shaped thing, right above one of the EGR valves.
-on the 4th gen, there is coolant that runs to the EGR guide tube, but if you're using a 5th gen EGR guide tube, you won't need those lines anymore. so i took out those lines to clean up as well, and just make sure you still have coolant going to the throttle body
-lining up the upper- if using the 5th gen egr guide tube, i would bolt down the bolts on the front of the upper manifold first, then the 2 bolts that connect the EGR guide tube to the upper, and then the 2 nuts that hold the bottom of the EGR guide tube in. i think this is the best way to prevent a vacuum leak from between the upper and lower.
-i had a problem w/ leaks, so i can't emphasize properly torquing down bolts enough, as well as remember to use gaskets (if your old ones are still good then that's okay).
-wiring, some of the wires for the IACV and TPS may not reach very well, so kind of along the pass. side firewall, you might have to cut the cover for the wiring and give it some more slack, you'll see what i mean if you look at it.

What I said I started and haven't finished was a full blown guide on how to do it!

I have this problem now but I think its important for those that are using the 4th gen rear valve cover. You need to grind down the coil bosses of number 3 and 5 clossest to the radiator support all the way down. Than cut the nub off the coil pack. Secondly you need to hack the rear valve cover by drilling a hole on the side and relocating the pcv. If you look at the FSM for the 5th gen, you will notice that the PCV is horizontal instead of Vertical. Ceasar also has a pic in his photogallery. I think this is the only true way to get the upper intake manifold to sit properly so you won't have a vacuum leak.

Right. I'm using an elbow fitting but I still have an air leak. But, going ahead and hacking the rear valve cover is not too hard.
Also, wouldn't removing the PCV entirely have an affect on the performance or idle?

I'll take a picture tomorrow. Another local org member is going to install the hacked rear valve cover for me and hook up the 5th gen IACV so my car will work properly on cold starts in the winter.

4th gen vs 5th gen Rear Valve Cover
Thanks to the help of vipervadim we redid my vacuum & fuel Lines, redid the 4th gen rear valve cover, and hooked up the 5th gen IACV.
Vipervadim fabed up the hacked rear valve cover. Here's the pics.
This is a top view of the Hacked 4th gen vs the stock 5th gen Valve cover.
That's the side view of the rear valve cover.
This is how it looks installed.
We connected a 3/8" hose to the barb fitting than the pcv than another hose, which than went into the upper manifold.
This is the spyder assemble we rerouted. You need to remove it entirely from the car and install new fuel and vacuum hoses in its place. You can bypass the coolant line which the photo shows a ghetto rigged up T-fitting with JB Weld on one side. We have since replaced that with a "U" shaped hose which you can get off the rear of the 4th gen manifold.
In order to also install the 5th gen IACV you will need the EGRC-BPT valve to move freely. That's the round disc part with the detached hose on the right.
I used the 4th gen plug to hook up the 5th Gen IACV. The car starts up no problem at 1500 rpm than drops as the car gets warmer. In park its at 750 rpm and in drive its at 600 rpm.

thats great I've been having the cold start issues for over a year now and i thought of just talking of the manifold bc of this. How hard was it to modify the valve cover and also do you still have a cel light or has it ome off.

is there any difference in power or whatnot between using the 4th gen lower or the 5th gen lower?
do I need the 5th gen fuel rail and injectors to mount the 00VI?
or can I use the stock 4th gen ones on my car now?

I don't have any pics of it on my car currently, I'd have to go and get some.
It shouldn't be that hard to picture though, just run like a heater hose elbow or similar from the grommet out the side under/beside the VIAS. To the elbow connect a short piece of hose to the PCV valve (1/2" dia IIRC), then the 3/8" dia hose on the other side of the PCV valve to a manifold port, or catch-can, whatever your setup is.

whos got a writeup and in depth list of everythign i will need on a 00vi swap..
pictures are great ceasar.. but im not a mechanic when it comes to the engine area on a max.. but i do have the wrenching and mechanical ability to install things if i know wuts goin on lol.. thanks guys

im wonding if i use the 4th gen lower intake what eles will I have to do beside get the top drill out to bolt up. How about gaskets with one and do i have to port match the intakes?
