None of the above, most insurances dont cover flood damage, and with the mod being the cause more than likley your Foucked . Try some junk yards for the prices im to lazy to do a web search, but prob in the 4-6k range.

Oh yeah funny you mention, i was watching tv the other day and on a court show they mentioned how the car ran through a puddle and became hydrolocked..what suprises me is the car even started after it died.

Can you start and run it now? Or won't it start anymore?

If water came out in the oilpan that means the water got through the combustion chamber and past the pistons....it must have took quite a gulp of water for that to have happened.

Insurance is for collision accidents...this a different kind of 'accident'...like oops my intake blew my motor and now I need a new engine kind of accident. Tough break. I'd guess a (new) engine with install would run around $10,000+...maybe if you got one from a wreck it would make sense.

Lets just establish one thing though...car does not start or run right now right?

This one claims to be w/ 2500mi and they are asking $2,000.

Its from a 5.5 gen...but just to give u an idea of what used engines for this car cost.

Ive read you should take out all the spark plugs and let the water come out....I think your also going to see the SES light on for the rest of the time you own the car too.

Clicking though...I think what happened is the water got into the combustion chamber, the engine tried to compress it, and broke a connecting rod...and then the valves collided with the piston and broke some more stuff...

Take off the oil pan and see if pieces of your VQ are laying in there.....Id do that first to assess if your engine is ruined.

lol holy **** don't burn it or wreck it...... did you allready talk to your insurance and dealership...... I mean did you tell them what happened...... if you called annonymously or if you didn't tell them who you were or had them look at the engine...... put the stock intake back in and have it towed to their lot..... tell them what happened and bam get it done if still under warrenty..... if not check your insurance for some type of flaw in thier water damage coverage..... if you don't find coverage then get some...... or switch companies so this doesn't happen again..... last thing you would need to do is replace the whole engine..... take out plugs spray them out with a high pressure air hose one at a time..... this is of course after you drain out the oil and put the cap back on...... leave drain plug open and filter off...... put plastic down and alot of shop rags..... blow out each plug and rethread the old ones back in while doing this..... after all holes are blown out replace with new plugs...... then take and have the oil flushed power flushed...... about $100 and recommended to do every 100k miles...... replace oil with a thicker grade possibly a 10w30..... drive the car until oil circulates the engine and then replace oil and filter again with 5w20 or 30 whichever you normally use...... I recommend having someone who knows what they are doing attempt to do this..... you don't want to damage anything inside the engine further..... knocking should quit after a power flush even if that is all you deside to do..... I deffinitly recommend cleaning out your plugs though.... good luck keep us informed....

good luck with the insurance...i've worked for 2 companies already...just hope someone seriously smashed ur front end in so it either becomes a total or repairable and they'll need to replace the engine...

lol you guys seriously crack me up..... don't wreck it..... you will not get the value back even if it is unrepairable...... and insurance companies aren't stupid well most of them..... they send reps out for high dollar repairs like this to research and make sure the damage was justified..... anyways try a power flush if your car is running you should be fine..... if it seized up then you would have to worry..... even then it is repairable..... deffinitly not as expensive as a new engine...... well with labor...... maybe depending on where you go...... I would do the flush if that doesn't work take it in and have them tear it apart and asses the damage..... if you need to replace springs and such do it..... and upgrade while you're at it..... deffinitly take off the CAI and put a short ram with a heat/splash guard on..... or if you want to keep the CAI put a middle water catcher filter on it..... they sell them on ebay cheap...... won't help against a huge puddle, just rain and such.....

A similar thing happened to me on Saturday while in NJ. The car cut off in the middle of a puddle, my buddies and I got out and had to push it out. After about 10 mins I started it up, it came on with the CEL and VDC light on. The car had little low end power but I was able to get it up to about 40 mph. I got to a friend's house after about 6 miles and changed the filter with a brand new spare that I happened to have in the trunk. He also connected the car to his laptop to read the codes; the only one that came back was the MAF sensor…he reset the system and both lights disappeared. I tried to start the car up, but would not idle properly and shut off twice. The third time I sat on the accelerator to level my RPMs at about 2,000 for about a minute, after which the car was able to maintain it’s regular idle without cutting off. I was able to drive it home (about 18 miles) with no problems. The car sat the following day (Sunday), but I had the oil changed yesterday and there was no sign of water in the discarded oil. I drove her this morning and again, there was no sign that anything was wrong (she drives exactly like it did on Friday). I spoke with my mechanic and he believes that since the car drives perfectly I should have no cause for concern, nevertheless I am still a bit worried. I am hoping that since I drove slowly through the puddle, little or no water got into the engine (again there was evidence of water during the oil change).

Additional info; The car has about 8,800 miles, I have the fujita cai, I use mobil full synthetic and the CEL hasn’t returned.

if it was me and the engine is in fact ruined this is what i would do, and i am putting on my flame suit for saying this be cause i know how much the vq is adored, but i would swap out the vq35 for an sr20det engine out of one of the front wheel drive platforms, like the 200sx ser or the old sentra ser, rebuilt of course. and here's why.
1. hasn't been done before.
2. weight savings
3. engine has a lot of aftermarket support
4. relatively cheap engine.
5. loves boost.

of course with everything there are negatives.
1 no vq engine
2. no low rpm torque
3i am sure the engine swap would be a pain in the ***
4. would have know idea which forums i would hang out in.

oh well, just an idea.

Engines can be had on ebay fairly cheap. Swap it and leave the old one for parts; I am sure not everything is dead there.

no to crush someones dreams but there is no way a sr20 is going to pull around our car and have power doing it...... If you were to do this swap you would need to put as much aftermarket support possible to obtain what you have now..... this in turn would cost alot more to do...... stay with the vq..... parts are coming..... if you are looking for more upgrades like a turbo and such just wait...... altima SER is paving our way to new and better stuff.... since they won't make anything for the max...... bastards...... do the power flush UnMaTcHeD.....

Take off the F'n oil pan and see if anything is laying in it...then you will know if any internal parts broke...you wouldnt have to wonder anymore.

People just want the sound....the car comes stock with a cold air intake anyway. I never knew one of these custom intakes could cause this kind of damage....it would'nt have happened if it was a stock airbox, its not worth it IMO.
