Hood wont open, help!!!

i pull the latch and nothing happens!! this just happened all of a sudden, i can hear the clicking sound but the hood wont open, i pulled off the grill, but what can i do to manually open the hood?

can anyone give me a good write up for a first timer to replace the rear valve cover gasket? my knowledge about cars is limited (under the hood) but with pictures it would be alot easier
