My driver's side headlight lasted less than a month when I bought my Maxima new in 1996. The dealer had to replace the assembly since the bulb shattered. Both OEM bulbs are burning strong 12 years...

I believe there is either a fuse or a fusible link marked DRL in the rectangular box under the hood. You may have a burned out fuse.

I drove my brand new 1996 GLE off the dealer lot with less than 5 miles on the OD. It still runs great 150k+ miles later. The only issues were a partially dead Bose head unit and a pesky a/c issue...
