Faint plastic smell? There's one small pulley that's made of plastic next to the tensioner pulley. Make sure that the nut hasn't loosened or seized. I think its loose. Check the underside of the belt...

Yeah, I remember reading postings about the coils being a problem for '99's.
Nissan used a different manufacturer IIRC.
