Sorry for the delay, yes it does need a power source...some SE's would have them coming out of under the roof panel. it's what I used when I switched it with the compass mirror

00-01 stock auto-dimming rearview mirror

Mirror from my 01 max it has "Auto" and "Off" buttons but its not a compass/temp mirror....thats what I bought and why I originally took this off. Its in good condition, glass is not cracked, dimmer...
