Its well worth paying someone $200 dollars to do this job. When I had my upper oil pan done I had the steering rack replaced at the same time to save on labor.

1 quart of oil after 2500 miles isn't very much loss for an engine with 224K miles, maybe some high mileage oil will help.

Use the search button on the many posts about oil leaks. The upper oil pan seal is the cause of the oil leak between the block and bell housing, not the rear main seal.
