QUESTION for you photoshop pros!

How do you achieve the effect of making a black and white pic, but making color stand out!? Say I would like to take a black/white or greyscale pic of my car but it would be cool to have my purple calipers/lug nuts stick out

How I would go about doing it is to make a selection of the pieces you want to be color. You can do this with the pen tool, lasso tool, or with the quick mask mode. Once the portion you want to stay colored is selected, you should invert the selection (under the "Select: menu, or by hitting ctrl+shift+i (windows)) then I would desaturate the selection (the part you want black and white) by hitting ctrl+shift+u or going to Image>Adjuctments>Desaturate, and then ou can play with the levels or brightness and contrast to further adjust the black and white portion. Then you can deselect and save. Good Luck.
