looking to buy a 300zx

1. don't bother looking until you have the money. what's out there now will not be there when you're ready to buy.
2. good luck being able to afford a TT in good condition
3. don't buy a "fixer-upper" unless you have $10,000 to spend on maintenance.
4. read 2 & 3 again.
Z32s are beautiful cars, but they're also maintenance PIGS. nothing is cheap on them and everything is a PITA to work on. They're extremely expensive to mod as well.
If you're on a budget, I suggest picking up a 240SX instead. much cheaper to get into, maintain, and parts are cheap. plus they're much easier to work on stuff in the engine bay. 4 banger FTW.

Neither are twin turbo.
I would suggest against a 300ZX. There are plenty more cars out there that will perform better in ALL aspects for less money. And if you ever plan on doing any work yourself to the motor you'll need to schedule an entire weekend for it if you're not familiar (and still if you're pretty familiar) with Z's... The engine bay is almost as cramped as an S4.

I can so vouch for this. I too wanted a 300zx and wished I had enough money to buy one and hook it up a little. After working at a mechanic shop over the summer and taking a hard look at one, I totally lost interest in it. It seriously looked like nissan pulled a makeshift fast one on it. My advice is to go with something else.

get a Z you wont regret it, i agree the engine bay is cramped up a bit but there is also soo many pointless lines (aivs egr carbon canister etx..) that you can remove with the motor being in or out of the car, and that free's up a ton of room on each side of the motor.

I hear Conquests are pretty zippy and very modable.
I agree, get money first. You are going to find a WIDE range of prices and you really need to read up and learn about these cars before you even start looking. Example, earlier Z's tend to have head issues unless they've been repaired. Also, there are issues with the aging rear steering on many, especially given their age now.
Overall, in my search for a 300z, I've seen ranges from $1600 for a decent NA auto to $3k for a NA auto that has been totaled. Otherwise have seen good TT's for $4500 to $10k. Convertables will also be pricier but are more rare.
Simply, this is the wrong forum to be looking for an answer to this question. Hit up the z32 forum.

I will say that IMO, the z32 is a sexier car. I have always liked the style. I am not a big fan of the way the engine is stuffed in there, though.

i don't know where you're from, but if you are interested and have over $10k to spend, i may have something for you.
90 TT w/ 66xxx original miles, motor, turbos. 60k maintenance performed. sensibly driven.
modded w/ quality products. no nothing is cheap on these cars, but you don't get anything crappy on this one either.
needs paint on front and rear bumper, otherwise immaculate and newly detailed.
email macksum1@gmail.com if interested.

I agree with the rest of the guys. Depending on where your from finding a good one can be difficult. If you find a good body you can maybe do that Chevy v8 <LS1> conversion. Depending on how brand loyal you are haha.
I would just get something else with that money though if you have the money for one you also have many options to consider.
