My Future Car - Ariel Atom

Yeah some people on this board know I had a S2000 that I tracked and I got this 370 to replace it. I think that was a mistake it's such a pig on the track and frankly I'm not interested in either gutting it or modding the crap out of it.

I paid my Ariel Atom local dealer a visit this week and I'm going for it I have a meeting to make my first of 4 payments this weekend.

$65k is list however they are dealing so don't expect to pay that much....

They have a unique 4 payment system no financing which is cool! Last payment due on receipt.

I'll keep the Pig for now, it's paid for and somewhat fun but nothing like my old S2000 and I'm really looking for some autocross fun!

they are prob dealing them because a better atom is coming out soon (or it might already be out) what would the v8 atom end up costing? It is supposed to shatter everything this car can manage to do plus not be as drag limited in the higher speeds.

N/A is the standard engine, Supercharged is an option I'm not getting.

245 vs 300 HP. Not that big of a deal on an autocross track.

V8 hasn't been released but it will be $$$, they said add 100k to the cost.

2.4 ltr, 500 HP, 10,000 RPM V8, 5 Valve Heads, Supercharger, Sequential 6 speed, bunch of carbon fiber pieces to help direct air flow and keep it cool.

This is the new one, Ariel Atom 3 but not the V8. The V8 model is supposed to be called the Ariel Atom 500 which represents the HP. They told me to expect 90k to 100k added to the existing cost but it's still in development and could go up.

I take it you never driven a shifter kart... IMHO the best raw form of racing on this planet.

Actually the AA 300 turns in high 10's consistently, the AA 200 is in the low 12's. The AA 500 watch out..

I have to admit...I've never driven a shifter kart...

Interesting concept, good luck with it!

You're not just paying for the parts, you are paying for the engineering behind it.

'nuff said.

Its an amazing machine, but the lack of demand means the prices will stay high.

I might be wrong but the atom thats legal in the states has a turbo ecotec as opposed to the s/c honda motor for emissions reasons i think.

Ecotec is euro spec model only. North America is only Honda, S/C is an option.

If you're thinking in terms of mass produced vehicles produced by large corporations, then yes; on paper it doesn't seem to be worth the money. But look at where it's made. It's basically hand built and engineered by a group of people small enough to be a single household family.

I suppose so... though if I were going to spend 65k on a car, I'd want a little more...uh...car

To each his own though.

I'm in agreement with Bigles. Get the parts for 20-30k and build it.

building sounds kool, as a matter of fact would ariel be willing to sell a kit for a build it yourself...maybe like a bare bones kit and you add your own brakes, seats, wheels, w/e...maybe just like the chasis and powertrain (suspension maybe) since im sure thats where most of the development cost went to. probably could cut allot of the cost down, and you get the joy of making the car. Kinda reminds me of Legos, when i was a kid building the crap was half the fun...smashing it to pieces was the other half lol

either way ,have fun with the new toy...

btw did you consider a trex..those seem kinda fun too and i seen a few used ones around for under 30k

Got the Vader/Atom for my screensaver. Nice choice on all cars including the 370.

It sounds like you really loved the S2000 for auto-x. Am I reading that right? I've numerous where ex-S2000 owners wish they hadn't sold the car for "X" car that's more powerful, torquey, etc. The S2000 is my most realistic choice when it comes time for me to get an auto-x/weekend car. My first choice would be an Elise, but they're still a bit pricey. My dream would be an Atom.
