Infiniti code > Mil > PO650 ...

Hey guys, one of my buddy is kind of desperat, he bought a GX35 - 2004 about 6 months ago, the car is in very good condition but recently the car started to bog down, he then took it up to an Infiniti dealer. They inspected the car and confirmed the code wich was MIL & PO650. They charged him 1500$ to fix it but they never been able to fix it, he sew them to court since 1500$ and no fix is a quite steep invoice. Apparently the dealer cant fix that problem as they told him they dont know what's wrong with the car therefore they cant fix it. Does anyone has an idea on how to deal with this weird problems ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciate.

@ "Sew them in court"

Was it a sweater or a potholder?

p0650 is a code for a faulty check engine light circuit. That wouldn't cause bogging. Hope the dealer gave him back the $1500.....

PO650 is a code for excessively high or low voltage being sent to the ECM. There are numerous checks the technican will have to do to check out the problem. The problem could be a short in the harness, a grounding issue, or a problem with the combination meter (ie the instrument pod). When you say bog down, what exactly do you mean? Is it short on power or does it not want to accelerate past a certain rpm?

What exactly did they do to try and fix the problem? The FSM outlines everything thatshould be done and really isn't anything crazy for a guy with the voltmeter and may a couple of hours.

Has your friend done ANYTHING electrical to the car? I'm talking about stereos upgrades, grounding kits, aftermarket alarms, etc? Is this car located in a cold and salty climate? I recommend you take this exact question and post it over at g35driver.com in this section http://g35driver.com/forums/engine-d.../?daysprune=-1.

Unlikely as the owner is reporting a lack of power and it's not throwing any other codes. I've got the FSM open right now. Plus, the only thing that would go wrong with the bulb is it would burn out, again, unlikely. His CEL is on, not burned out.

Hey Dave, you really narrow it down, the car hesitate pass 4000rpm, would not engage in the 5th gear ( automatic trans. ) other symptoms but I dont recall everything he told me, I'm going call him this pm and ask to give me further explanation. The car is bone stock, no added stereo or any mods.

Yes there is 2 codes: MIL and PO650. I had never heard of the MIL code before but apparently this is a well known code for Infiniti but also Maxima to my surprise. One of the independent mechanic who took a look at the problem said something about putting a resistor on one of the wire but that's all I can say about this. I'm going to call my friend tonight and ask him more details about this.
