very impressive build. I wonder what state he is in(maybe I missed it)? the biggest issue that I see is inspection, or if in california, smog(since it will be considered a custom manufactured 2009 vehicle, thus needing smog). The sheer weight of the beetles make the car go extremely fast with the power that engine is putting out. geez, I wish I had the time and money to do something like that. Would love to see how fast that thing is at the track.

I am digging it. I like the whole package, even the luggage rack on top.

Here is a WRX powered Vanagon... its a common swap for these flat 4 powered VWs. I was tempted to pick up a 74 Bus and doing a EJ22T swap using a non Turbo Legacy motor with WRX components.

I think the V-dub guys like it because with the right muffler, any of the subie flat-4s can sound alot like the original beetle engine

They like it because they are dime a dozzen, make good power and fit right in the original pancake engine bay. Where VW engines are old, they can't make alot of power because with high compression comes heat- and these are all air cooled. FI vs Carburated to fine tune the power, MPG, drivability.

There are some hardcore guys with air cooled big bore Bugs.... I wouldn't mind a Subaru engine in a VW. We call it the Subwagen on the Vortex, they don't frown upon it like some people do when they see a K-Series Honda motor in a Toyota or Nissan.
