I guess you can say I'm playin both sides of the field
Vq is good for a daily driver but its not really a great performance platform

RWD = fun? Yeah, maybe if you only watch Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift.

if i did as much to a 350z or something then i'm sure i would feel like its more performance based.
I've been in a 350z with headers plenum, CAI, Cams, full exhaust and a couple other stuff that I cant remember. Basically every NA bolton you could get and honestly it was still slow. It still prob wouldent have kept up with a stock ls1 and it cost him a ton to get all the work done. Only thing I could see a vq35 being good in is a really small light car, but then again the ls1 weighs about the same isnt as wide, and is about the same price and obviously puts out more power.. so its almost always a better choice.
The vq35 isnt a bad engine
On paper for an all out race build the VQ kills the 2jz in potential power output. A sleeved 4.3L Vq35 engine is damn near indestructible and obviously has way more displacement than even a 3.4 stroker 2jz with headflow from the stock heads that the 2jz heads even ported cant touch.
We just know in reality on a budget thats just not the case. So my problem with it is its performance/dollar ratio

I used to have a bolt-on 350Z (I/H/E) and it felt slow. It was a mid 13 second car but it never pinned you back into your seat. Since then I've moved on to a LS6 Z06 with an intake and headers and it's like night and day. This motor makes power all over the rev band and all it does is pin you back into your seat. I couldn't be happier with this engine and I'm hoping to push over 420 rwhp with a mild cam and tune.

Is your Vette just a FRC or is it an 01 Z06? Either way it's a sharp looking ride.
Its just a regular FRC, I bought it a couple years ago and C5 Z06's were out of my price ranges at the time. If only I would have waited .
Dammit Will, my horrible work schedule of 5pm - 11pm is a burden on my car-social life . And as it stands, I doubt i'd be quicker than you in the 1/4 mile. Around a road course; perhaps .
Im all for a .org LSx Etown meet! Oh how we've evolved . I think Saturdays are the best days for us street muffled guys to get a bunch of runs in, let me look into it. If anyone else knows a good time / place, feel free to post it up!

From 1995 to 1999, I had a modded LT1 Z28 that would hang with and often out run the LS1s at that time (they were still relatively new at the time). I really enjoyed the power, but after years of ownership I realized that:
1) Lots of people have the same car and lots of people of people will be MUCH faster. You're never happy with what you have and are always looking forward to the next modification to get faster. It's tiring and exhausting and gets worse the longer you own these cars.
2) Everyone and their mother expects the LT/LS to be very fast
3) Running 12s in the LT/LS is very common. Not until you're running lower 11s do you really get any real respect.
4) You really can't use that much speed on the street.
5) With that much power, it's way easy to get in over your head.
6) Gas mileage, especially in the winter is painful as those big V8s warm up and guzzle fuel. They're fine on the hwy, but most us drive around town and that's where they suffer.
I've actually gotten way more enjoyment out of owning my significantly slower 96 Maxima and 03 G35. Having a car no really expects to be quick or perform while having the room to transport more than 2 people is far more enjoyable to me. Don't get me wrong though, I'd love it if my G could run lower 13s. That would be more than enough power for me. Any more than that is pointless, IMO unless you track the car.

#6 is painfully tru, as my car warms up it gets horrid gas mileage until its up and running.
on ls1tech some ls1 owner got banned for not running 12's i think. They don't play games over there with people and their drag times.
come on man thats balony. there are stock f-bodies who only run 14s because of altitude or someone doesnt know how to drive.
I dont really understand the idea of too much power

I must say that I've had my 02 SS 6M for a good 6mo now, and Im close to getting rid of it. It's a great car for fun and long drives but for my around town driving its heavy and bulky, parallel parking that long f'er took me some time to get used to. Gas milage on the highway is great, but in the stop n go rush-hour traffic I frequently encounter after work, it gulps gas like I chug coolaid. It's also not a useful car (to me) because I often have to carry people/ things and that big bulky car has no useful storage space and this forces me to borrow a friend's car/ truck.
If I could afford and had the space to have a DD and this SS for a weekend car I'd do it, but I do not.
On a positive note, it is A FUN CAR! Mine has a KnN panel filter, FreeRamAir, Ported TB, !AIR, 3-angle valve job, pacesetter longtubes, custom y-pipe, 160* thermo... If I were to keep it, airlid/ 228R cam/ HPTuners would have been next in line.
My friend has an 06 GTO (LS2) and it is a sick bastard child of a monster! All it has is an intake and wow! lol
