OK, my wife's QX4 needs new tires. I am not really wanting to keep the rig, but we owe more than it's worth.
Here's the deal...I can get four brand new take off tires for about $110 each (mounted and balanced) and they are about 1" diameter bigger. It's an SUV, so it's not that bad. Speedo will be off by 3 percent (slow).
The tires are Goodyear and have <100 miles on them. The local sheriff's department drives brand new Durangos and they take off the stock tires and replace them with heavy duty 10 ply tires.
Goodyear, wrong size = $440
I could also get cheap Hankooks in the right size for about $145 a tire, brand new.
Hankooks, right size = $580
stock tire size is 245/65/17
Durango tires are 245/70/17
We have Dunlop AT20 Grandtreks on the 4Runner (the OEM tire) and they are extremely quiet, ride and handling is excellent, and on-road and light dirt grip is very good....I don't know how much they cost, but I do suggest them...

I ended up getting the "used" Goodyear tires. I believe they are Wrangler SR-A, but I didn't check the info on the sidewall. Apparently, there are two versions. On TireRack, the cheaper version is $125 per tire and that would not include any of the other stuff.
They were driven from the dealership to the radio place and then to the tire store. Less than 50 miles on the tires, according to the store manager.
They had many sets of them, so they lowered the price even more when I kind of hesitated on the size difference.
$400 including mounting, balancing and all of the services they normally provide (free rotation, road hazard repair, etc.).
Good deal. I put Yokos on the wife's RX300 when it was due. They are a light truck/suv tire vs the Michelin street tires. If I remember, they were $540 out the door at Discount tire. A tad louder but were flawless last winter.
