08 saturn aura xr

rented one over the weekend, a/c is kinda weak in texas heat, but otherwise decent car, leather, roof,xm radio, heated seats. nice size trunk.
it drove like euro car, not floaty but firm, confident brakes. drive bywire was slow to respond, annoying.
It would make a good girlfriend/wife kinda car.
My 13yr old 4gen would smoke it from a stop or roll.

probably feels euro because (IIRC) it shares a platform with the Opel Vectra...

I do have a hard time believing that a 4th gen would "smoke it" though...If you had an XR, that's a 252hp 3.6L V6. Quite a bit more powah than your '95 max....it pretty much weighs the same as a 6th gen and has almost as much power. Every place I can find has it running the 1/4 in low/mid 14s stock....considerably faster than a '95 max stock-for-stock (auto 4th gens run in the mid 15s).

Seems odd that a rental place would have the flagship XR with the 3.6. Sure you didn't have the XE with the 3.5l V6 ("only" 224hp)?

XR is a 3.6L V6 250+hp/250+tq

XE comes with either a 220+hp 3.5L V6 or a 4-banger good for 170hp.

so..

I dunno it felt slow, may be cuz it was so quiet inside, no engine noise, no exhaust noise and no rattles. It was nice being able to see all 4 tire pressures on the dash.

I rented from hertz, they also had shelby gt-h, audi a6, m35, g35, jaguar and volvo.

Hertz rents premium vehicles unlike Budget Rentals or Enterprise. I've rented an 07 H2 and a 07 Touareg V8 last year from Hertz, special order of course.

it could be 4cyl, there was no V6 badges either, felt so slow and e-throttle lagged big time. (I should have lifted the hood)
