2009 GM Solstice GXP coupe.

http://www.motortrend.com/features/a...upe/index.html

Alot of nice lines to it. Front is bad still. But in general, pretty nice. Not sure about the Z thing but I guess that's the closest rival it could come up with.

Maybe it's just me but I'd take an n/a 6 over a turbo 4, "modability" notwithstanding. Just don't like the buzzy sound/feel of the 4-pots. Pretty nice vehicle otherwise.

It's a very interesting use of their EcoTec 4. I hear it's a very good/stout motor. I don't think it would be buzzy perse. Not in a S2000 type way. I hope it sounds better than the "WRX/STI running on 3 cylinders" sound.

i reaaaaaaaaaaaly like the coupe, honestly if it was out now with the gm pricing event id consider taking one on if i got th financing i want.

mike the solstice vert gxp doesnt sound bad at all. its actually very quiet...maybe too quiet lol. but i understand what you mean with the v6 tho.

love the targa top, open air fun....hate the glass hatch opening, looks completely useless. i mean i know the car isnt designed to take on golf bags and such but atleast the z has a large enough opening that you can throw a decent aount of stuff back there. Sucks you cant take the hard top along, but the carry on soft top was a good idea.

i know the next Z will outpower this car on paper, butdo you guys think the solstice will be able to hang on the street. if the car does come with 300hp, that 3000+lb weight and a responsive tranny it may be able to do some good. the z should have a good 200lbs on this right?

The 370Z will weigh about 3000lbs itself, and pack 330HP. So no, Magik, the Solstice won't be able to touch it stock for stock. But then once you start playing with the Solstice's turbos...the Z will get left.

Hmmm...if it's smaller, it should be lighter.

I like it, but i do agree that a VHR-like six would be a better suited engine.

Nothing too wrong with the turbo 4 pot though...

that isnt always the case when it comes to affordable vehicles.

i can see them shaving weight and then adding it back with options and standard stuff... then coming out with the same exact weight as the old version.

it isnt easy to build a 3klb hard top coupe... I cant think of any other that is under 40k.

I hate how Pontiac never uses ANY practicality what so ever with the ergonomics of the inside to outside visibility. They're always a completel bitch to see out of and this car doesn't look any better. That hinders the driving experience of even a fast car to me a lot because I like to know what's around me every second of when I'm driving and in that car it looks near impossible. It may not seem like a big deal to most people, but take note to every Pontiac you've ever sat in.

Turboing a Z requires a ton of money. You'll spend anywhere between 10-20k on a reliable setup, installed and tuned. Take that 10-20k, sell the Z, and get another car, imo.

I like it. I think it looks MUCH better than a Z. It has classic lines, reminds me of an old Shelby Daytona for some reason....

logic = FAIL. The overall size of the car has alot to do with the body design, bumper designs, etc. Some small cars are very heavy...some large cars are lighter.

I refer to that as the "lawnmower on steroids" sounds, personally.

yeah, I noticed that too. odd.....but as we all know, production models sometimes are tweaked a bit for real-world driving (which usually ruins the looks of the prototype, unfortunately)

those recessed rear lower lights are FTL though. Why does Pontiac insist on putting cheesy recessed lights on their cars?????

Im glad i wasnt the only one looking up this car. I like it, and feel it has a lot of potential but the price point that its at is just too high. And im not too fond of that motor either. GM is almost there but not yet, theyre getting warm though.

* The fact that the Targa top doesnt fit in the trunk is lame.

I'm not denying the logic, I'm going by what's been rumored about the upcoming 370Z vs. current 350Z.
Quote:
The new car will come in about 100 kg (220 pounds) lighter than the outgoing model, and equipped with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed sportshift-equipped automatic. Double wishbones will suspend things up front, while a multi-link arrangement will handle duties in the back. The top-spec S and ST versions are expected to roll on upgraded 19-inch wheels, while lower models make due with 18-inch hoops, and Brembo 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes will halt forward progress on the high-end models.

It's a roadster thing? It's a throw back to the old Ferrari GTO look.

Plus I think they look great. The idea isn't cheesy on the Vette.

I don't mean that ALL recessed lights look bad. I mean that for some reason Pontiac puts non-recessed main rear lights on alot of cars (like this one) and then has the recessed lights down below in the bumper in addition. Pick one or the other! Either alone look fine. Both together look like a bipolar dude designed the car.
