2009 Infiniti G37 Hardtop Convertible

Note to the Lexus SC430: it is now beyond over for you. Infiniti, Nissan's BMW-hunting luxury brand, has unveiled the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible, a retractable hardtop 4-seater that preserves the Coupe's good looks even with its 3-piece folding metal roof neatly tucked out of sight, as you can see here. Power from the 3.7L V6 will be in excess of 320 horses, and numerous comparos against the BMW 335i convertible are inevitable. You can practically hear the buff mags reserving track time as we speak. Sunny Los Angeles will be the venue for the car's formal unveiling in November, and likely a fertile ground for sales when the time comes.

hardtop convertibles are

if you can spend $50k on a car, you can have a convertible for the summer/spring, and a hardtop for the winter...

Or you can take a nice car and add 500lbs to it and completely eliminate the trunk (though the g trunk is pretty laughable anyhow...)

Hartop convertibles are for fat rich women....

The G trunk isnt bad at all compared to other cars in the class and with the pass through and folding rear seats.. it has good trunk space for a coupe.

Plus if you need trunk space your not looking at a coupe

1. The G coupe trunk space sucks. I got a good laugh at my buddy's since it has a diagram in the trunk showing "how" you can fit two golf bags in there...classic stuff.

2. I wasn't comparing it to "other cars in the class." That said, let's compare:
G Coupe trunk: 7 cu. ft.
BMW 3-series coupe trunk: 11 cu. ft.

for comparison's sake, my '92 Accord coupe had 14.4 cu ft (yes, bigger because no rear diff, obviously)

so it's 50% smaller than it's most direct competitor, the 3-series. Seems like it is actually pretty bad compared to the competition.

3. I also disagree with the statement about coupe vs. trunk space. Alot of people want good trunk space but don't need to comfortably carry 5 passengers. I DO like a good size trunk, but my next car will likely be a RWD coupe (certainly not a G, though...) since I almost never carry people in the back seat, and on trips with the baby/dog we take the 4Runner.

And it just so happens I am in the direct demographic the G is targeted toward in terms of age/finanaces, IMO.

I agree the G coupe's trunk is pretty tiny, but isn't the BMW 3 series coupe missing a spare tire? Infiniti could make the coupe trunk a lot larger if they'd reconfigure the muffler layout and remove the spare. Having fold down seats is a huge plus, IMO. I wish G sedans had that. I'm sure Nissan could find more trunk space for the coupe, but it never seems like many people are complaining about it. Most people that own coupes tend to use the rear seat as a trunk anyways.

Who gives a sh*t about the SC430? The car's been canceled anyways. 2009 is its last run, so the G37 Vert won't even be competing against it.
