Dear God there is so much failure at hand.
By the way, didn't someone else want to attempt this concept. I can't recall for the life of me which automaker.
Either way, the point is they quit while they were ahead. Nissan should follow suit.

Sounds neat, but in practice it's probably a horrible idea.

i know who tried it!!!!!!!! although i think it was just a concept.

remember that movie mission to mars, it had a drop top isuzu vehi-cross...i swore at the time i thought that was the coolest thing ever!. isuzu also had their open top option on other suvs but it wasnt fully a convertable roof, more like rag top cut out....also their are the rag top wranglers n such but those done seem like an suv

I dont know how nissan or any suv company can pull off a drop top suv, especially if it is 4 door..it will just look too stretched and crazy looking. Maybe a nissan rouge/infiniti version might look a little better since its smaller

Very bad idea... WTH are they thinking? They are starting to get generic and **** with designs. That will definately need to stay as a concept and never be released.......NEVER!

Generic and **** with designs? As opposed to what other US Nissan released vehicles in the past fifteen years? If anything, this is out of the ordinary and very different from anything else on the US market. The only thing we have that is similar is a vert PT Cruiser. I can see so many rich suburban women wanting a convertible Murano to go out with the girls and get their pedicures done. Everyone is saying this is a bad idea, which maybe it is; I wonder what people said about all the other convertible/ removable top SUV's over the years? International Harvester Scout, 70's Bronco's, Hummers, Jeeps, etc.? Granted... this is marketed as a luxury vehicle and most likely won't have any roll cage like the other models listed, which is why I can't see it passing current saftey laws, but if anything....

I wouldn't call it boring, generic, and played out.

As Pearl said, it's clearly not aimed at our demographic so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised we think it's awful... I can see lots of people finding this appealing though.

looks... interesting to say the least.. I'm sure that massive roof they have to fold away eats up a good chunk of your storage capacity as well?

that thing will either be extremely heavy or wobble about.

either way, all I can think of is that one episode of top gear where they did it with a minivan. LOL

i hope nissan re-considers putting that into production. if they wanted an open-air design, at least they could've considered something similar to the sky-slider roof in the Jeep Liberty

that's what they said about the Pontiac Aztek too, and we know how that turned out. "Different" is usually not better....

Clearly all of those rich suburban women already have a convertible BMW, Benz, or Lexus which is far more stylish, better to drive, gets better fuel economy (for what it's worth), and is much higher on the status chain than a Nissan. Sorry. Rich women aren't drooling for any Nissan except MAYBE the new maxima, and that's even a stretch.

Please tell me you're not comparing a car-based convertible crossover "SUV" to any of those highly-capable offroad vehicles. Apples and oranges, big time.

also LOL...could you really call it an SUV anymore? It would no longer be sporty (probably weighs 3 tons) and most certainly would have NO utility capability....

Granted - but we live in a society where SUVs aren't necessarily popular because of their functionality. Given that, would it even matter to a large portion of the population? Doubtful...

how is a suv not a utility vehicle? they are referred to utility vehicles since they can pull trialers, pack the rears vs smaller trunks in cars. And in my opinion sport..since the old days of the boxy broncos, suburbans, etc
