...a while ago. Well, in May. I'm just now getting around to posting it I bought(flame suit on).............a saturn. ! not just any saturn though, hahah I found a 2006 ion redline by my house with 23k miles (plenty of b2b warranty) and also bought an extended bumper to bumper 100k mile warranty!
im def. missing my nissan but it would have needed a lot of work anyway. 01 max, 131k miles, I had the stillen y-pipe and cattman mid but my SES light was on and off for the past year or so with P0420 and P0430, ABS light was on, leather was ripping, it was going to(probably) need tires before winter, it BADLY needed a front bumper which i replaced myself(cob-job) with an ebay bumper, umm plenty of rock chips in the hood w/ two already rusted-through holes, needed rear calipers, etc etc
i'm definitely staying around here though, theres a lot of great guys on this site and i've learned a lot about cars in general, and can maybe input some of my own experience from owning a max for nearly 3 years.
this is when i first got it, i've smoked the front corners since then...post more in a bit. they're only made in silver, red, black and like, nine different blues lol...no i think theres the one you mentioned, laser blue, pacific blue and a dark navy color, one is really rare.
its actually at the dealer getting the transmission replaced as we speak hahah i'll take pics when i get it back. The only reason i'm so jovial about my tranny @ 29k miles is that its covereddddd! and i have an 07 saab 9-3 2.0T as a rental
two things i dont like about the IRL so far: the interior quality(typical GM) and can anyone say holy wheel gap?
i DO like that its got the competition package, thats why the wheels are smoked instead of polished aluminum, also includes a quaife LSD and an AutoMeter boost/vacuum gauge in front of the steering wheel.
Could of gotten a 5.5 Gen for at least 2/3rds of the price...
Quicker, more dependable and....way better looking...
But, to each his own. Have fun with it.

I got pulled on hard by an ion redline back when I was 3.0 with an intake, y-pipe, exhaust, and flywheel. I will not make fun of you for owning that. The ion pulled on me harder than the scion, the only other car to beat me. I felt a kick in my pride during both though, and they were both higway so there's no "Oh, I got a bad jump"
they are surprisingly fast.
my friend dynoed his with just a tune 0 mods and hit 216whp i forget the tq.
he then ran a mid 14 i think 14.4 the next week at the track. he autoXs the thing now i guess thats his new thing.
anyways they are decent little cars
i'd never own one but gm and me don't get along...

looks nice, dont worry bout the wheel gap...thats just more motivation to do some suspension mods ;-)
as far as the interior i cant help but agree, i drove the previous cobalt ss (the supercharged one) and although it was a fun car to drive, great performance and handling, i just couldnt get over the cheap interior, and i wasnt too fond of the paint quality either.
also nice car, i drove one on a raod course and it was alot of fun.
She was asking 15,995..it had 23k on it when i test drove it, she went to 15250 minus trade plus tax(2800 for max) and xtended warr. out the door it was $14,777

Its the same 2.0l ecotec yea but different VIN code...the S/C puts out 205/200 but the LNF Turbo puts out 260/260 in the cobalt SS, solstice GXP and sky Redline

do you mind explaing what happened to the tranny?
I was hearing a high-velocity tapping noise cruising at highway speeds, not braking or accelerating just on cruise or coasting, coming from the front, and going through parking lots at low speed or a driveway i'd hear a slow pop/click coming from the front end...took it to the saturn 2 weeks ago and after a more thorough diag. they ordered a new trans from saturn corporate.
yea actually gm makes a factory backed and engineered stage 1, 2 and 3 kits. 1 is 42 lb/hr injectors(stock is 32) and a tune to raise redline to 7000 revs. stg 2 is the injectors, tune, smaller pulley and a belt to go w/ it. 1 brings it to 236/200 and flattens the torque curve, and 2 brings it to 241/218. Under Warranty.
Stage 3 includes everything in 2 and a dual-pass intercooler plate, an even smaller pulley, raises the redline to 8000 rpms(although not recommended w/out high performance valve springs) and has a 100-octane mode. brings it to i think 248 horses on premium and 260 w/ 100 octane, and of course, for off road use only
it doesnt scare you in the least that it has 23k and already needed a new tranny?? the stealership had to have known about the problem as well?? goodluck..but sounds like more rentals down the road???
i didnt get it from the stealer, and yea i am a bit peeved about it but havent gotten to that point yet, i'm still in the joyous "i didnt spend $2000 on a car i just bought" stage but yeah its def. makin me think about how long i wanna keep it down the road

As long as its covered under warranty I wouldent really care.
I am not sure how many miles the OP got out of his max but I wouldent plan on getting many miles more than 100k out of this car..cause once its out of warranty I think you'll want it gone quick

It's a matter of principle. GM = garbage. Please do yourself a favor, do not keep the car, despite the imminent perks man. Trust me...

and ignorance shows through as usual.
how many early 80s japanese cars do you see on the road anymore?
how many early 80s GM cars do you see on the road anymore?
I see tons more old GM cars than I do old Japanese cars on the road.
GM does not equal garbage. Poor maintenance makes them garbage.
the typical person buying a chevy is just looking for a cheap car, they beat the crap out of it until it breaks and then sell it off to another sucker who does the same thing.
the typical person buying a japanese car is spending more money based on a perception of better quality, and the intent to keep it long term which means they will maintain the car.
I currently have a 94 caravan with 150+K on it and it still has it's original transmission and engine. it was maintained extremely well including trans fluid changes at regular intervals. if it wasn't for the maintenance it would already have hit the junkyard. but maintenance is what cars thrive on, without they are all junk.

got it back, new trans & halfshafts...shifts are very tight, and quieter than they were before. Driving is fine, I've been hardcore babying it though-no shifts over 3k, no full or even half throttle, only been above 55 once i think. My one question- I can definitely hear the transaxle spinning with the clutch out, while im stopped. no noise while driving but when im at a red light or w/e in neutral and let the clutch out i can hear a fairly loud whirring....any cause for concern?
and yes i agree that the engine is more dependable, i miss driving a VQ around every day. at 131,000 miles it ran and sounded like brand new. Something to be said about the body though, i've seen numerous threads about rock chips and paint/rust probs. Plus a lot of ppl get oxygen sensor codes too...but every car has its issues, no doubt about that.
Grand Prix/grand am eats rotors and pads like nothing else. toyotas older 3.0 and 3.3 engines had bad sludge problems. vw=electrical problems. chrysler means new transmission(with the above exception, thats quite impressive) and apparently saturn does too lol
