G35 Coupe

So i'm thinking of selling my max and picking up like a 2005 G35 coupe....i LOVE my maxima, its my first car and it will be hard to part with, but jesus christ i want on the G coupe. It looks so sick and with that rwd i'll be bruning through ruber like its nothing. I have about 5 grand saved away and im thinking i can get about 7 grand for my max. Its a 2000 GLE, leather, bose, sunroof with 92k on it. that puts me like three grand away from a decent used g35 coupe. was just wondering if anyone else made the switch from max to g35 coupe what did you like/not like about swithcing

1. there are about a million threads about G coupes and/or members who bought them. Try search.

2. there are very good G35 forums out there, which will probably give you a better insight into the G than Maxima.org will...

For the record, fix your sig. Your 2004 Xterra had a VG33, not VQ33.

Wait so you have only $5k saved up... and you think you can get HOW much for your 5th gen? Where is the extra gas money going to come from? The tires you burn through? Insurance? My advice: save your money until you can actually afford it. Until then, don't waste your time.

If you're wanting a 6MT, I'd steer clear of any 05/06 G or Z. Those cars come with the 298hp VQ35DE "rev-up" motors which have some rather significant oil consumption problems. If you buy used and you don't have the oil change records, you're screwed when it comes time to get the motor replaced under warranty. I'd suggest saving a few bucks and buying an 04 coupe 6MT with the 280hp VQ35DE motor. Yeah, it has less HP, but it makes more torque than the rev-up and the acceleration numbers are identical.

I got $6500 for mine. I think I did quite well.

My opinion on the G.. I lusted after one for the LONGEST, until I drove 1 or 2. a 2005 and a 2004, both autos, so it is unfortunate I couldn't judge the true performance with a manual. I was left unimpressed and longing for more honestly. The interiors (05+)are supposed to be better than a maximas. It just felt cheap to me ... ESPECIALLY the 03/04s. Ride quality was for the suck.. then again I live in NY and the streets are ****, so I won't hold it against the car in that case. The tires, were toooooo Fing LOUD!! The car felt HEAVY, sluggish and not as nimble as it's main german rival. They are still some of the sexiest cars to look at though

I thought my 03 sedan 5AT was a 14.7-14.8 car because the acceleration wasn't that amazing. I then went to the strip and on it's second pass did a 14.4@97mph. Couple months later in cooler air (50s), it did 14.3@98mph, stock. With an intake spacer it did 14.3@99.5mph. It took my 96 Maxima 5MT a y-pipe, JWT ECU, midpipe, MEVI, hacked airbox, no passenger seat, and 96 octane to run those exact times

I do agree that the coupes can be pretty loud on the inside. I don't know why, but my friend's 03 coupe has a bit more road noise than my sedan. They ride on the same wheelbase, have the same ride height, weigh basically the same, and both have new tires. The coupe has a "tinny" sound as if it has less sound deadening.

As for the ride, these cars do ride fairly harshly around town on poor roads. It's a trade off for the handling. BMW does it better, but for a lot more money.
