Cars With Plastic Window Spacers

I was looking much closer at the new Maxima and wondered if that is a spacer on the rear window.

I am talking about those spacers they use on cars like the Altima. I believe spending all that money for a new car and getting a plastic spacer is a rip off. A serious design flaw. I would avoid this purchase for any price.

Some people might say it isn't as bad as an Avalanche or a 4Runner or even the Xterra with plastic all over the wheel wells. I say it is. It's bad enough that outisde mirror housings are plastic. Interior I can live with though who would want so much plastic every where in a new car?

But even if it's less than the size of a hand on the rear window spacer is enough to turn me off.

Again I didn't look too close at the new Maxima but I know that spacer is on the Altima.

If you know any other cars that have excessive plastic or those spacers let me know because I want to avoid them.

Plastic spacer is clearly shown here on the rear window of the Altima. Very ugly.

did you ever think that if it wasn't there that window would be able to roll down because the shape of the window extends outside of the door frame

It's real hard to show you if people don't take a picture of their ugliest part of the car.

I searched for Altima window spacers and came up with this post.

If any of you have any sense you wouldn't spend even 20k on a car with a piece of plastic in the rear window because the rear window doesn't fit. It's filler. A spacer.

There is no glass in there. I can take a drill and put a hole straight through it. First time I ever saw one was on a 2002 Altima. I know other cars have them because I have seen them here in others posts.

This is the closest I found. It's right behind the rear window that doesn't move.

I noticed something similar on the 2009 Maxima. Looks like I could just rip the whole thing off with my hands. Cheap.

You think that's a rant? I consider that a serious design flaw. Did they run out of metal at the factory or did the engineer just figured plastic would last forever?

Here it is on the 2009 Maxima has more of a metallic look to it but it is plastic and goes all the way above the door. Not as wide as the Altima but still there.

If anyone had 20K they would be smart not to take advice from you because of a piece of plastic....seriously thre are ugly parts on your 4th gen....like yellow windscreen wipers, telling us that you have no sense in taste about what looks good, so STFU.

I'd like to point you to all the engineers that decided to design so many cars like that, because clearly you are smarter than every last one of them.

Well evidently people don't give a damn how their car looks. Look at all the Avalanche buyers. And GM with fiberglass pick up beds. Might as well build cars out of bondo.

And learn how to spell, there. Dipstick.

I can see a plastic piece on the door to protect from shopping carts but it is ugly.

The engineers that put that plastic on the windows are probably from India or Britain. I know some of those engineers in La Jolla and I am sure those are the choices. Maybe I should call them up and tell them how stupid they have been over the years. But fock people like DaveVQ think plastic spacers are the gayest thing since vent windows popular on early Mustangs. It's a spacer. Dipstick.

Britain and India, yeah they know all about cars. That is why they take the train more than they drive.

Go be astounded.

I spotted many cars with this spacer. Most were Hyundai. Saw a Mazda Tribute and a Chevy Aveo seemed to have a large spacer in it's rear window.

Our mirrors are an example of a spacer that is put to practical use. I spotted a van that had a plastic spacer in the front window after the mirror.

What is the excuse for these spacers? Are they trying to save weight? Can't form the metal or the glass to fit?

Come on all of you that want to defend Hyundai and engineers from the third world. What say ye?

Less plastic and more metal. If I wanted a car made of bondo then I would buy bondo.

You obviously have a place in this world to tell designers how to do their job, especially when you have yellow windscreen wipers and other miscellanious yellow things with a MAROON color car.
