So, Im looking into getting my wife a newer vehicle. Right now she is driving "the tank" a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville. The thing has been through some stuff but still cranks over on a dime with 267k miles and does its job. Ive been looking into these and I wanted to see if you all had any experience with this vehicle and what have you all thought about it, keep up, engine dependability, that sort. There is one local with a wholesaler I know for $5995. I know the GT's have the 3.8's and SE's have the 3.1. I havent found much and the forums I found were kind of non-informative.

No, she doesnt mind as long as its a newer car than what she has. So, Im looking into cars that have more room than the max but still good on gas and in the midsize range in a range of $5k-6k. Since these are in that range especially for an 01-03. I thought about an 00-01 maxima too but saw this one and was trying to get some knowledge on them.

They're pretty solid cars for the most part. The 3.1 sucks a big one though, even just for driving around town. They get decent gas milage thanks to ridiculously tall gearing, so that's a plus. They're also definitely roomy.
If anything, get a 3.8. Those things are tanks, you won't have any reliability issues. HOWEVER, a lot of little things like window motors, etc. go wrong with those cars. Interior quality is terrible, but entirely livable. Not a bad buy for around $5k but I wouldn't go much more than that. I'd say look at 5.0 gen maximas. My mom's was a beast even at 240k miles, and she probably spent $1500 in repairs the entire time she had it (motor mounts, o2 sensor, and coils).

Yeah. Im leaning towards an 00 maxima now, Im finding some for around my price range. Thanks for the headsup on the 3.8's. I hear ya about the window motors. The drivers side and passengers on the 92 bonneville we have is slowly dying and we have already replaced the drivers rear side one. Thinking about all these issues makes me want a maxima for her now. I appreciate the help guys.

you can buy a high mileage 02 for around 8k...i know it's out of your price range but it's a hell of alot more car.
