sold the maxima....new car!

I decided it was time for me to move on to something turbo and with bigger storage, so I decided to sell my 4th gen.

I picked up a nice 04 Subaru Forester 2.5XT, 5 speed manual of course. The car is worlds above my 4th gen, i'm not even going to compare it. The acceleration is amazing, it's a high 13 second car stock. Handling: while it has a fair amount of body roll, it's still very very good, especially since it doesn't have stock tires anymore. STI suspension is in my future.

What i really love about it is that nobody expects it to be quick. Everybody was like...WHAT?! a forester??? wtf???....no attention from cops.

Anyway, here are the pics. Don't let the tallness fool you, its an extremely fun car to drive and NOTHING like a small suv.

So how much did you get out of your Maxima? Does the Forester get better gas mileage? It does remind me of a Toyota 4Runner though.

Saw a soccer mom driving one of these one day. I knew was a wolf in sheeps clothing though. I had read the article about em few weeks earlier. Isnt it the same block as the sti?

Congrats on the purchase.

I hate to sound like an ass, but don't think you can hit high-13s stock with that car. It'd require quite a bit of mods. With 210HP and 3250lbs, you can land mid-14s if you're a bit abusive with the launches. But from a roll, a proper 5th gen Maxima would walk the car - the trap speeds aren't terribly impressive on XT, either. Mildly bolted XTs do low 14s, and extensive ones do mid-high 13s.

For example: http://www.dragtimes.com/Subaru-Fore...lip-14323.html

Not true.

"The force-fed flat-four's combination of torque, gearing, and weight will get you a blazing 0-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds and a quarter-mile of 13.8 seconds at 97 mph."

My 4th gen was relatively modded, but not this quick. I had all bolt ons/00vi/vafc. Plus i could never get traction in 1st gear, and this isn't an issue on the forester.

All in all, it pulls much stronger than my 4th gen ever was in its best shape/tune. On the highway, i expect it'll be exactly the same as my 4th gen was. Maybe a bit slower. I'm going to do a closed circuit comparison between my friend's 4th gen which has i/y/e. I suspect from 0-70 i'll have him then it'll more or less even out. Honestly, i've only had a couple hours to drive the car since i left on vacation right after the purchase and won't be back until Saturday. But my first impressions of the power are great.

NYPD Arnold: I wouldn't expect it to be quick either with 210hp, i've never considered the XT as an option until i read the C&D article, and that's when it clicked that it's the perfect car for my needs. I can tell you that my 4th gen was capable of running ~14 flat with a good launch, and i've gotten it to 14.26 with a 2.25 60'...the forester feels a good bit quicker then my car was. Take it for all it's worth, but i think, from my personal experiences, that it'll pull bolt on 4th gens without any issue. It's all in the launch.

As for MPG, people have been getting about the same as a 4th gen. In a turboed car, it really depends on how you drive much more than on an n/a car. If you don't hit boost, you'll get good mileage...if you do, well...

I do think that the looks are very plain and it doesn't stand out at all, but some people like me actually prefer that. When i'm driving, i feel like i'm in a softer STI...it has awd, turbo, manual, it's unrefined/rough, and that hood scoop. I can tell you that it's better than the 02 WRX that i test drove by a mile, at least in my opinion.

I'm probably going to go vf39 when i have extra money for repairs, but not now. Now i'll probably just do UP, DP, AP, and that should be enough for power. I need this thing to stay very reliable. For suspension, i'll go full stock sti. Stock springs/struts, sways, harder bushings, and some other random stuff.

if you do all the right mods to that it's going to be a sick sleeper. definitely lower and throw on some STI BBS's.

XT's are dope. With the STi suspension and wheels, it'll look even sicker. Now I want one.

Was actually considering an XT before the maxima. A sleeper and a half. 13.9 second SUV sleepers FTW. They have ton's of potential as well. Nice find man.

It cost me $12,000 out the door. As for MPG, it's not AS good as the maxima was, but that's probably because i've been doing a lot of WOT driving with the AC blasting. I averaged 23mpg on the last tank, 60city/40highway, which i think is very good considering my driving style on that tank.

I've been doing some offroading at the local park and it's quite sweet.

Nice car man, I was looking for one of those durring winter or '07... it was between the Baja Turbo and the Forester XT. I really like the Baja because of the interior and cargo space/utility.

Keep in mind you won't be doing as much offroading with the STi suspension..

I was also considering the Baja, but i realized that the wagon look is more 'my thing'. Couldn't afford a 05 Legacy GT wagon with a MT, so ended up with this, and I have to say that I'm quite happy about it due to extra ground clearance. About the STI suspension, all this hopping random curbs that i used to be scared to death of and off roading in the woods is making me reconsider. I think for a while i'll upgrade the sway bar and get new harder bushings, and see how far that gets me.

As an update, i just got 25.5 mpg on my last tank taking it easiER on the gas pedal. This is probably where the MPG is going to be stuck at. Just a couple MPG lower than the maxima, but i'm willing to pay for it in exchange for AWD and boost. Plus stage 1 map is on its way, that's supposed to improve gas consumption a bit.
