not sure, if that are already breaking at oem power levels then i would assume this car wont be doing any hard launches...unless they have 20k saved up.

I've talked with a shop employee on another forum and they are supposedly developing a transmission upgrade kit for the GT-R. Unfortunately once this kit is installed the warranty will be void. But IMO, working parts > sketchy warranty.
Nissan GT-R Spec-V release confirmed, possible unveiling at NISMO festival
Quote:
Reports about the release and pricing of the Nissan GT-R Spec-V have been circulating for months and Nissan HQ has supposedly confirmed the rumors and targeted an on-sale date in Japan in late January or early February.
The GT-R Spec-V is expected to be packing another 100 hp through the use of a new exhaust, more boost and a retuned ECU. Carbon fiber will replace some of the body panels to reduce weight, while new wheels, upgraded brakes and suspension tweaks will round out the mods.
Rumors suggest that Nissan could release the Spec-V at the 12th annual NISMO Festival at Fuji Speedway in Japan later this month. Pricing could be up to 15,000,000 yen – 2,000,000 more than earlier predictions – or around $154,000, more than double the cost of a standard GT-R. If the Spec-V goes on sale in the U.S., expect pricing to be considerably lower.
Nissan GT-R named Car of the Year by Automobile Mag

PRESS RELEASE
AUTOMOBILE Magazine Names the Nissan GT-R Automobile of the Year
ANN ARBOR, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- AUTOMOBILE Magazine, America's leading automotive lifestyle publication and part of Source Interlink Media, LLC, a subsidiary of media and marketing services company Source Interlink Companies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SORC), announced today that the Nissan GT-R is the 2009 Automobile of the Year. The magazine also named the Audi A5 Design of the Year, Honda president and CEO Takeo Fukui Man of the Year, and Direct Fuel Injection Technology of the Year. The winners are featured in the pages of the January 2009 issue of AUTOMOBILE Magazine, available on newsstands beginning December 2, 2008.
2009 Automobile of the Year: Nissan GT-R
The much anticipated Nissan GT-R is the first Japanese supercar to seriously threaten the reigning opposition, many of whom the GT-R bested on Germany's renowned Nurburgring. Editors noted that while the Nissan GT-R rides like a subway car, sounds like an appliance and weighs a ton, it still deserved to be named Automobile of the Year for delivering high-intensity fun and astonishing performance.
'For decades, previous versions of the GT-R were never exported to the United States. Now we know what we've been missing, and are we happy to be invited to the party,' said Jean Jennings, president and editor-in-chief of AUTOMOBILE Magazine. 'What we love about the GT-R is that it refuses to compromise. It is not comfortable, it is not trying to make friends and it is not trying to influence people. It exists for one reason only ' to go fast ' and it does.'
In awarding the GT-R its ultimate prize, AUTOMOBILE Magazine editors cited the car's 'neck-snapping acceleration,' 'super-accurate steering' and 'incredible value' by supercar standards.
"The new GR6 dual clutch gearbox in the Nissan GT-R is an amazing piece of engineering. When Nissan chose an oil for it they had many goals to reach and the end result was the Nissan Genuine GR6 transmission fluid that comes with the car from the factory. With transmission failures being seen globally now, the question some are asking is; Could this oil have been potentially under-engineered for the application?
Willall Racing today have released their WR35TM Transmission Lubricant specifically designed for the Nissan GT-R GR6 transmission application.
Using Filtergram particulate analysis they conducted extensive research into the performance of the standard gear oil at the track and what they found was… room for improvement stating it kindly.
Standard Gear oil after track use showing large particulate contamination. These are bits of your gears…
This sized particle is obviously a problem, but when its floating about inside your gearbox oil it’s going to have a knock on effect and cause more and more problems which can build up to a gearbox failure in a short time.
Their testing showed, at high temperature, the standard gear oil may not be providing sufficient lubrication.
After changing gear oil to Willall’s new WR35TM and punishing the GT-R on the track again (for a longer period mind you) here’s the same analysis of the gear oil at the same magnification.
As you can see there’s nothing approaching that mountain sized gearbox chunk in here. Willall estimate a 150x reduction in wear at high temperatures and at the same time, this oil remains fully compatible with the GT-Rs dual clutch system. The latter being quite a challenge to achieve.
They also manage to make the gearbox run quieter, run cooler and behave like standard while driving.
So with all these advantages you’d expect to pay a pretty hefty premium over the Nissan stuff right? Well the price is $730 USD (inc worldwide shipping) for one oil change (10 litres) but measure that against Nissan’s price for the same quantity of GR6 oil ($1000) and you’re going to be saving almost $300 a oil change. Good news to those of us who like to push their GT-Rs a bit harder."

2009 Nissan GT-R to get 5-hp bump and tweaks in Japan
Quote:
The Nissan GT-R will benefit from a few engineering and cosmetic tweaks for the 2009 model year in Japan, beginning with a slight bump in performance that brings output up from 480 to 485 PS (just under five hp). Other modifications include a larger fuel tank – expanded from 71 liters to 73.8 liters – a slight increase in fuel economy (about .3 km/l), "Nissan" replacing "Brembo" on the brake calipers, a new mounting location for the front license plate and a new paint code for Storm White (changed fro QX1 to QAB).
Pricing will also increase by another 5% in 2009 and it's expected that most of these changes will be adopted on U.S.-spec vehicles when the "Series II" production run begins next year.
"We’ve been expecting 10’s to be broken into for a while now. Quite a few guys had run in the 11.0’s so surely it was right around the corner. Despite their best efforts though traction was a major issue even with the GT-R’s ATTESSA AWD system.
Today 10’s have been achieved in the US by a Dallas, Texas based workshop Jotech Motorsports. The owner of the car is D3GTR on the NAGTROC forums and it was built by Kenny Tran of Jotech.
The car is of course modified, running a HKS GT570 kit, Mine’s Exhaust, and the COBB Tuning AccessPORT. It’s making 548 hp and 573 lb/ft of torque.
Unbelievably, the run was done on a cold track with the 22″ wheels and street tires you see here fitted up."
I don't see a timeslip yet, but with that power it sounds about right.

i thought for a car to be named car of the year by motor trend it had to be under 60k? I could h ave sworn that many other cars ahve been disqualified before due to that.
The Nissan GT-R is slap-your-mama fast, which has led to some dustup on the internet surrounding voided warranties when using the included Launch Control. Contrary to a previous report that Nissan intends to drop Launch Control from the 2010 GT-R, Motor Trend's blog is reporting that no decision has been made yet and we've heard the same thing from Nissan itself. The bigger point that MT goes on to make is that even without Launch Control, the GT-R is still brutally fast. When the magazine got its first crack at the R35, testers did an acceleration run just for giggles with all the electronics aids active except for Launch Control. The result? 3.9 seconds to 60 mph by just mashing the skinny pedal all the way down. That's enough speed to keep the GT-R running in the same pack with which it's already been lumped, and with the computers doing the work, there's no risk of stalling at launch and getting smoked by a '93 Duster. So what've we learned? Without risking a $20,000 transmission replacement, the GT-R is still a rocket.
Turns out, you can still be a superhero in the GT-R simply by mashing the throttle; 60 mph arrives in 3.9-sec., the 1/4-mile in 12.2-sec. at 119.2 miles per hour. Here are the full numbers:
Note that these are our standard corrected numbers (including a one foot roll out and corrections for temperature and elevation), but conditions that day didn't warrant any massive correction. In fact, the 0-60 time didn't change appreciably with correction.
Drivers Republic attempts to answer which is faster on the 'Ring, GT2 or GT-R?
Quote:
The Nissan GT-R set the 'Ring on fire back in April with a single lap of 7:29. That news didn't go over well in Germany, where team Porsche insinuated that Nissan cheated by using a non-standard GT-R to achieve the supersonic time. Porsche even took a bone-stock GT-R to the 'Ring and its chief test track driver could only manage a 7:54. Nissan defended its time as legit and has provided solid evidence to support its case, but Porsche established enough doubt for Drivers Republic to bring a GT2 and GT-R to the famed Nürburgring to see which vehicle was faster.
Drivers Republic put both cars in the hands of an accomplished Nürburgring veteran, Chris Harris, who is also the author of this excellent article. Both vehicles were stock, except the Japanese-spec GT-R had its limiter removed. The Nissan also had Bridgetone rubber at the corners, which are actually different than the stickier Dunlops that Tochio Suzuki utilized during his 7:29 run. Nissan claims the soon-to-be-standard Dunlops are five seconds faster, but that's when in the hands of Mr. Suzuki who is one this planet's preeminent 'Ring racers. The track was wet during the run, which you would think favors the AWD GT-R, though Harris claims the GT2 felt faster in a straight line. You're probably dying to know which vehicle came out on top, and while we will tell you that one car was nine seconds faster than the other, you'll have to follow the read link below to find out for yourself.
2010 Nissan GT-R Spec-V coming Janaury 8th, full specifications leaked
Quote:
According to GTR-World and the GTRBlog, engine output remains at 485 PS (just over 478 hp), the same as the Series II GT-R and possibly putting to rest rumors that the Spec-V would be packing between 520 and 550 hp. The transmission mode select button has been removed, supposedly meaning that "Race" is the only setting available. However, an "overboost" button is included in the package that increases mid-range boost pressure for overtaking maneuvers.
Carbon ceramic brakes will be hidden behind Rays 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in no-cost Dunlop tires, and the suspension is comprised of a retuned Bilstein Damptronic setup that is supposedly superior to the NISMO ClubSport package already offered.
The omnipresent weight issue has been (somewhat) addressed with the replacement of the back seats with a carbon fiber shelf, along with carbon fiber front thrones, front grille, rear wing and brake ducts on the front lip spoiler. More of the exotic weave can be found surrounding the IP and mirror switches, chrome replaces anything painted silver and black will be the only available interior color. A Thatchan alarm system, Electronic Toll Card system (ETC) and a Bose stereo are all optional, and a new color – Ultimate Black Pearl, a deep purple/black hue – is available for an additional 577,500 yen. All the other colors currently available to GT-R buyers will also be offered and pricing is supposedly set at 15,750,000 yen (base) and 16,978,000 yen with all the extras.
While anything offered from the factory has the weight of the Nissan/NISMO engineering team behind it, we're surprised by the limited diet and complete lack of power mods (Nissan couldn't uncork the exhaust and raise the boost a bit?). Until we get official word from Nissan (Tokyo Auto Salon?), we're skeptical that this is the final spec sheet. Hopefully, we'll know soon enough. But in the meantime, color us less than impressed.

NAGTROC member from Florida, Johnturbo has been chasing 10’s in his Nissan GT-R pretty much since day one. Having had a temporary setback when he was kicked off the track for running too fast without a roll cage he is now back.
Tonight down at Orlando Speed World Dragway he finally saw those 10’s and not just 10’s. He’s now the quickest Nissan R35 GT-R managing a 10.852 @ 128.86 mph!

VIDEO: Tuned Nissan GT-R grenades tranny at the drag strip
Quote:
The Samurai Speed Nissan GT-R you see above (the one on the right) is a total bad ***. With over 600 horsepower and several other performance-enhancing tweaks, it can do a 10.5-second quarter mile run at a ridiculous 128.42 mph. Samurai Speed has obviously tested Nissan's notoriously finicky Launch Control over 100 times without a single hiccup... until now. The $20,000 tranny recently took a dirt nap on the drag strip with the cameras rolling, and we have video of the carnage after the jump.
You can't hear the tranny fail on account of the other GT-R at the line, but onlookers said the nuclear transmission sounded like a "bunch of metal dominoes in a line and Tiger Woods came by and hit them with his driver." Ouch. It's pretty obvious that Nissan won't be picking up the warranty tab for this GT-R, so Samurai Speed plans to beef up the transmission on its own dime in an effort to continue cranking out incredible times.
After over 100+ launches of 600+whp, Samurai Speed finally found the limits of the GT-R's transmission! The gearbox snapped like a twig on launch.
* We're actually HAPPY that we finally found its limits. We knew it was only a matter of time and needed to upgrade the tranny to be able to take the car to the next power level (700...800...900HP and beyond.)

TOKYO (Jan. 8, 2009) -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced a new limited-production Nissan GT-R SpecV model, which goes on sale at seven specially selected Nissan dealers throughout Japan on February 2, 2009. The GT-R SpecV is targeted specifically at enthusiast drivers who desire race car-level performance in a street-legal vehicle. NISSAN GT-R SpecV
NISSAN GT-R SpecV
Developed around the multi-dimensional Nissan GT-R sports car, which was introduced just more than one year ago to universal global acclaim, the new SpecV model builds on the original's "ultimate supercar that anyone can enjoy driving anywhere, at anytime" philosophy - taking it to an entirely new level of "oneness between man and machine." The SpecV model includes unique body, interior and performance equipment and modifications, raising the GT-R's unmatched performance to even higher levels.
The GT-R SpecV's new exterior features include a carbon fiber rear spoiler, a carbon fiber grille, and carbon fiber brake ducts. The SpecV is available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal (RP) body color. Inside, the SpecV's unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a two-place rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fiber bucket seats, while carbon fiber insets embellish the rear center storage box, instrument panel and other trim areas.
Performance is enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engine's twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes that provide powerful stopping performance.
The GT-R SpecV is also equipped with lightweight, racing-style forged aluminum wheels that were developed for this model and have been sold by Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) since September 2008. The lighter unsprung weight provided by the new wheels, together with the enhanced braking capability, an exclusive suspension and high-grip tires, combine to deliver the SpecV's exceptional performance.
The SpecV will be sold at the following seven dealer outlets, each of which is staffed by mechanics with special GT-R SpecV training and who are knowledgeable of racing circuit driving.

172k huh? pretty steep, but im not surprised that it isnt coming to the us. every time you alter a seat in a car you have to get it re-crash tested and with the state of the auto world it would cost millions just to sell a few of them here.

im glad to see that they made it though
The $56k Nismo package is the closest you'll get from the factory, but I guess a total $135k is a savings...it even includes the same seats. http://forums.maxima.org/6694504-post715.html
