it really doesn't even look like a 4 door... the back seats look a bit cramped though.
i love aston martins... ever seen the top gear with the aston martin (DB9?) vs. train race?
GODDDD i loved that episode, thats the thing you cant do in america, one, because our trains would derail trying to get there, and 2 highways are t3h suck. Either way, that sure is a sexy rear door..... suicide ftw though...
from the side view, it looks very much like an SLR benz (especially the taillights). Beautiful car though, still looks like every other new Aston though. And will this be priced around the Masarati 4-door?
Aston Aims to Steal Porsche's Thunder With Four-Door Rapide

GAYDON, England — Aston Martin is planning to gate-crash Porsche's party in the luxury four-door coupe market by unveiling a rival to the Porsche Panamera at the Detroit auto show next week.
The V12-powered four-door sedan concept, named the Rapide, revives a name used on a 1960s Lagonda four-door model, and although Aston still owns the dormant Lagonda nameplate, bosses say there are no plans to revive the marque.
The new Rapide is based on the VH aluminum monocoque platform used for Aston's DB9 and V8 Vantage sports cars, but stretched to give the Rapide a 12-inch-longer body and 10-inch-longer wheelbase. It is labeled a concept, but the car is a runner and is expected to get a go-ahead for production in 2008 or 2009. It could be on the market ahead of the Panamera. Production would be exclusive — only around 500 cars a year — and is expected to cost between $200,000 and $250,000.
The Rapide uses Aston's 6.0-liter quad-cam V12 as found in the DB9, producing between 450 and 480 horsepower. It will drive through a rear-mounted automatic gearbox controlled by paddle shifts, as in the DB9.
What this means to you: The four-door coupe market just got a lot hotter. Who else will join the fray: Ferrari, perhaps?

I agree with that, Especially with bucket seats, it might create a challenge fitting between the door and bolsters, but who cares, the thing is a beaut...

btw, rear bucket seats, ftw
the tails has a very SLR-ish look to them, actually it just looks copy and pasted. Still looks sexy and I think will sell as good as the 2dr equivalent.

Rear will be very cramped, maybe they arent expecting the owners to have tall friends
The train race was amazing, I was routing for the aston!

Tough not to get enthused about that car! I'm surprised it took Aston this long to come up with the idea, especially with all the FoMoCo resources they've had access to. But hey, better late than never.

Where did they get that idea??? Hmmmm from Bently maybe? The way Bently made 4 door Continental GT. I think it's alright for Bently but not for an Aston Martin.
Well the car looks nice at least. Gotta be heavy and real heavy now.

Heart Stopper: Aston Martin Rapide Debuts in Detroit
Quote:
DETROIT — Aston Martin, the British sports-car specialist, built the odd saloon long before Ford purchased the Newport Pagnell company in 1993. But none of those four-door Astons — not the quirky Lagonda "star destroyer" of the mid-'70s, not the funky Lagonda Rapide of the early '60s — had quite the heart-stopping sex appeal of the new Rapide concept unveiled here at the North American International Auto Show.
Although billed as a concept "four-door coupe," the DB9-derived Rapide looks shockingly close to being production-ready. And why not? With such premium four-doors as the Maserati Quattroporte and the Mercedes-Benz CLS55 AMG now finding eager customers around the globe and the new Porsche Panamera slated to reach dealers in 2009, a high-performance variant like the Rapide seems like a logical extension of the Aston brand.
The hardware certainly looks capable enough. Aston has adapted the flexible VH platform from the DB9 for the four-passenger Rapide, which is nearly a foot longer and 300 pounds heavier than its two-door sibling.
At its heart beats Aston's silky 6.0-liter V12 engine, massaged to deliver 480 horsepower and mated to a ZF Touchtronic gearbox.
Designed under the direction of Marek Reichman, the Rapide's signature styling feature is the so-called "swan wing" doors that swing upward and out to permit easier access to the car.
Although not yet approved for production, this one looks fairly certain to win the green light from Dearborn. According to Britain's Top Gear magazine, Aston insiders already are projecting an asking price of around $250,000.
What this means to you: A four-door Aston makes as much sense as a four-door Porsche — doesn't it?

GAYDON, England — As the dust settles on the sale of Aston Martin to a consortium headed by British motor racing entrepreneur David Richards, now comes confirmation that the company has restarted development on a four-door sedan based on the Rapide. The svelte Rapide concept car was first revealed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2006.
Originally planned to join the British carmaker's lineup by 2010, the opulent four-seater's development was halted last August, when previous owner Ford confirmed it was opening tenders for the sale of Aston Martin as part of a companywide restructuring aimed at cutting debt.
But, in a move suggesting its new owners see solid sales potential in a high-priced four-door model, the company's chief executive, Ulrich Bez, has revealed that the Rapide has once again been placed on Aston Martin's future model schedule.
Bez says the Rapide will add a further 1,000-2,000 cars to Aston Martin's targeted annual total of 7,000.
The Aston Martin factory at Gaydon, England, will be altered to cope with the production of the new car, with expansions planned for the body and paint shops as well as changes to the assembly and trim lines.
No date has been given for the new car's introduction, although Bez has hinted it could still be launched by 2010.
The Rapide will be the second new model to be produced by Aston Martin under its new owners, following the DBS, due out later this year. Featured in the movie Casino Royale, the new coupe steps into the Aston Martin lineup as a replacement for the 6-year-old Vanquish.
Former rally driver Richards was successful in his bid for Aston Martin in a consortium that also includes John Sinders, an American banker, and the Kuwaiti-based investment groups Investment Dar and Adeem Investment. They paid $925 million for the 86-year-old carmaker, of which Ford retains a $77 million stake.
What this means to you: The early signs for the future of Aston Martin look good with a production go-ahead for the Rapide, one of the most desirable cars in years.
Caught weeks ago in the cold of the Arctic Circle, the 2010 Aston Martin Rapide is now undergoing high-speed tests on the Nürburgring test track in Germany. And like the previous prototypes, this Rapide test mule has only minimal camouflage.
The lack of a cover reveals an interesting new design twist — a roof that's nearly all glass. There are a few pieces of equipment attached to this particular prototype, but it's a relatively unobstructed design otherwise. A few other luxury sedans have similar setups, so this appears to be an emerging trend in the segment.
Like the current range of Aston Martin coupes, the Rapide sedan sounds as good as it looks. Not a surprise really, as the Rapide will use essentially the same 5,935cc V12 as the DB9. Output is expected to jump significantly, though, so expect to see the final number approaching 500 horsepower. The corporate ZF-built six-speed automatic transmission is the likely gearbox and it will send the power to the rear wheels.
Production of the 2010 Aston Martin Rapide is expected to start in Graz, Austria, in late 2009. Supplier Magna Steyr will build up to 2,000 Rapides a year under contract with Aston Martin.

First official Aston Martin Rapide image comes online
Quote:
It's only one image, but it's supposedly the real deal. Or so says CAR Magazine in the UK, which published this rendering of the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide today. The publication claims the computer-generated rendering comes straight from Aston and previews the final form of this über four-door coupe. They apparently have another image in hand but are saving that for the January 2009 print issue of CAR. From what we can see, it appears that the Rapide will remain very true to the concept version. CAR notes the front end has changed a bit with the concept's quad air intakes being replaced by an upper and lower grille, and there's now a more creased character line running down the length of the vehicle. The rear has supposedly changed a little as well, but is not viewable from the angle we get in this rendering. The mag is also claiming the Rapide will be powered by a big 6.0L V12 producing 500bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque, which should be enough to keep the large sedan, err... coupe, moving briskly.
Appears not that much different than the concept, which is a good thing.

Gone but not forgotten:
96 S4 (gladly sold...time for another electrical crash yet?)
06 Mazdaspeed6 (sold)
Current (un)stable:
92 SE (now barely runnin' after all these years)
06 Mazda 6 V-6 (the new--hopefully temporary--add)
96 993 C2 (need new seats...and a roll cage)
'09 (out), more like a '10 (maybe)
A few weeks ago we showed you what we believed to be the first official rendering of the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide four-door sports sedan. That image showed the front three-quarter view of this British beauty. We told you at the time that there was another image allegedly out there that was waiting for a January release. Well, Christmas has come early.
Today we bring you the rear three-quarter shot of this much-anticipated Porsche Panamera rival. This view shows the dramatic sweeping glass roof that carries right down into the rear glass. The tail looks a lot like that on the Vantage, but when you have family genes like those of Aston Martin, that's not a bad thing. We still expect that the Rapide will be powered by a tuned version of the corporate 6.0L V12 producing 500bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque. That should be more than enough to rapidly scoot the Rapide to an anticipated v-max of 180 mph. We can't wait to see it in the flesh.
