oregon guys, WARNING!!

The bill is primarily focused on aftermarket tires and would authorize the Environmental Quality Commission to implement enforcement regulations, likely based on a rolling resistance calculation.

According to SEMA, which strongly opposes the bill:

* H.B. 2186 would regulate vehicle fuel economy, an authority reserved to the federal government.
* H.B. 2186 could ban tires that may have improved performance, handling or appearance features, based solely on a rolling resistance rating. In addition, this program could easily distract consumers from focusing on more important safety issues such as tire inflation and overloading of vehicles.
* H.B. 2186 would force consumers to purchase only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tires because the program essentially exempts OEM-selected tires and unfairly implies that they are superior to aftermarket products.
* H.B. 2186 could prohibit aftermarket parts designed to either personalize or optimize specific vehicle performance attributes including handling, towing, suspension, fuel economy, etc.
* H.B. 2186 provides broad authority to government regulators and could limit a range of aftermarket parts currently available to consumers based on the subjective determination of government regulators.

SEMA urges those interested to contact Oregon Speaker Dave Hunt to voice opposition to H.B. 2186. Hunt

I have heard about this and I will be sending a letter and email to my state rep soon.

I heard him on the radio Thursday and I know he is against it. However, most of the state is democrat and or liberal and they think that this will be a "green" bill. What a crock.

If it does pass, there will be a lot of shops in Washington state gaining a lot of business. There will be little way to prove they were not on the car prior to the law taking effect.

They are trying really hard in Oregon.

The governor wants to jack up registration fees, title fees by a LOT. He also wants to increase the gas tax.

Plus, he wants to implement a mileage tax, where you have to buy an expensive GPS device to track how many miles you drive. You would then be taxed based on 1) miles 2) time you drive (more during rush hour) and where you drive (possibly more on high traffic freeways).

They are also going to implement California emissions, which would make cars more expensive to comply with the different types of emissions systems.

If all this happens in the next few years, I think I will be moving across the river. I just hope the housing market goes up.

I don't see that bill passing. Too many people employed in the aftermarket here.

I talked to a Les Schwab employee and he said that they will be in opposition. Being as Schwab is one of the largest companies based in Oregon, I think it will be tough for the bill to pass.
