As for the brine, Washington uses some kind of acetic acid solution that is bad if left on, you should see my muffler . It is not supposed to be as bad as the old sand and salt. WSDOT says to wash it off. The parking lots around work were doused with tons of salt however, as lots of Puget Sound area drivers can't drive in snow or walk in snow either. I grew up in Canada so I'm biased.
