So I got a ticket..

About a week ago I was driving a Mustang from work. There was this sand patch at the intersection of the road and there was a good amount of traffic. So I dropped the clutch and the tires spun on the sand. Apparently there was a cop down the road a bit and saw the dust and thought it was smoke from the tires because its a Mustang. My boss told me to fight the ticket. I was just wondering if you guys think I even have a chance of winning. Any opinions?

Just like all of the other traffic ticket threads here, i would say fight it. You can only end up in the same situation your in now (paying the fine). If your going to fight your ticket, i would suggest going to the location where the sand was, and see if you can photograph the area. See if you can show any of the sand that might still be there, and if not, it will show that there might not be rubber tracks in the road. Someones the effort can help our your case. But i would say just fight it.

Fight it in court...just surf the net, lots of information on things you can do to improve your chances. Our laws in canada are a little different but i have found some great information www.ontariohighwaytraficact.ca and www.fightyourtickets.ca

Fight fight fight! Definitely go back and see if you can snap some pics to prove your case. Good luck.

Like everyones daying, fight it, what do you have to lose besides having to pay the ticket either way. I've had close to 27 tickets in the past 5-13 months, I've fought just about 95% of them because they make no sense not to.

Sand on the road, not your car - you were shifting the vehicle into a lower gear to anticipate the upcoming traffic in the area, when you did so the exhaust blew sand into the air. Ha...

Just an idea! Definatly fight it, you could get it reduced if you still have to pay it.

Ya this was a 07 GT, something similar happened to one of my friends and he literally did it in front of the cop like the cop car was the car behind him and he got off. And I guess one of my bosses sold a car to the chief of police the other day and he told my boss to fight it. and he will talk to the officer.

As long as you have a picture, and a solid story i dont see any issues. just make sure you can explain the whole aspect of slowing down with the motor for the upcoming traffic, and you should hold your own. i think your best battle is going to be with the pictures.

what was your actual charge/offense on the ticket?

I believe it was excess noise from the tires.

fight it, tell them the car wasnt yours, and youre not used to the power it has. after all, your daily driver is a family sedan
take pictures of the patch of sand also.

what exactly is the official citation?

I forget to be honest I should have taken a picture of it before I mailed it. It was like a 50 dollar ticket. Its also a stick which I don't have and just learned how to do it for my job so I can park them I'm not really used to driving a manual car on the road.

for $50, just pay it and move on in life.

I recently paid a $103 ticket for following too close, I was but it was at night and the drivers in front of me downshifted and didn't hit the brakes, so I crawled right up on them, just as we passed the cop. "F"!!!! I could have fought it, but I make more than it would have taken me to drive to the courthouse and deal with the BS

If he thought it was tire smoke from a burn out did you leave tire marks on the tar ? How does it make excess noise without leaving strips ?
