in Tx will smoked sidemarkers pass inspection?

I was wondering if they did or not because, Im thinking they will. Especially the places around here do a half ass job of inspections. The cops here havent bothered me either. Also the first 2 months I had the car the rear sidemarker bulbs were out so I had no light completely and I still wasn't pulled over .The sidemarkers light up the appropriate colors at night. Amber in front red in rear. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Side markers, as far as i can recall, are not necessary safety equipment. So they are not entirely part of the inspection process. Sure, if the bulb is out during inspection, they will tell you about it, but it should not be a cause for a failed report.

State law Sec. 547.3215 incorporates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Subpart B, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Section 571.108, Standard No. 108; Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment. This standard contains the following:
S5.1.3 No additional lamp, reflective device or other motor vehicle equipment shall be installed that impairs the effectiveness of lighting equipment required by this standard.

As a general comment, any device that impairs the required effectiveness of headlamps, taillamps, reflectors, etc is prohibited. The lights, both front and rear, are made by the manufacturer to meet this safety standard. An alternate or additional material, particularly something dark, would impair its effectiveness.

How do you know the places around you do half ass jobs if you have not taken your vehicle in?

I remember when I got a $500 fine for not checking a gas cap that was eventually thrown out since it was less than 2 years old made me realize not to take the job lightly, that and the threat of jailtime that they used to hang over our heads.

the Maxima isnt the only car Ive owned. Ive owned other vehicles and I do have friends outside of the net, that say the same thing. There is ALWAYS places where they dont do it by the standard. My old car, for example, I had 3% tint all the way around. I took it in and rolled the windows down. They could of easily just rolled them up. But did they? Negative ghostrider. They passed it and off I went.

I wouldn't worry about it; some cars come stock with smoked side markers.
