New TX plates? Why?
I did a routine online registration renewal and got a new set of license plates in the mail
Did I miss something here? Some new law or expiration period or something?

Oh ok.
I've had the car for 6, but since its a 93 and has always been a TX car, 15 years would make sense.

It's supposed to be every 6 or 7 years, that is right around the same time the reflective paint on the plates wear out.
You do get a new plate # unless you have a personalized one. (In which case, you get a new plate, but with the same #)
