This is quite a bit in advance because I want our first meet to be something cool and it will take quite a bit of planning. I mentioned when I started the club that we might be able to get some manufacturer support down for an install day. Well, Dan from Truax Motorsports contacted me to let me know that he and Sean would like to stop through Houston on May 24th for a group install of SFCs. I would also like to invite some of the other independent manufacturers out to participate. What I would like from you guys:
- Express a general interest in the event
- Express an interest in manufacturer's products (you have 4 months to save up)
- Any leads you may have that could help in securing a suitable location (parking, install bay w/ lifts)
- Anything else you feel you can offer/suggestions to make the event a success
I know we're kind of small right now (its been what, like 3 days?), but I'm sure more people will join along the way especially with an event like this.
Im down for the meet but I'm completely done sinking any more money into this 12 year old car... Maybe I can practice my welding skills on one of yalls cars though...
Hello All,
Sean and I have been communicating with BLACKonBLACK98 about an install meet. I have a conference in San Antonio, May 24th thru the 30th. My thoughts are to fly down a day or so early to Houston, assist any one who is interested in chassis bracing. Get their set welded on correctly and at a pretty reasonable rate. Our plan is to show you how to do it.
I want to make it clear that even if we don't sell one brace I am still planning on coming through town on my way to S.A. In the past I have had experience here in MN with the Dodge Cummins boys. 2 X a year they have "bombing parties" This means that what ever mod you have bought but not yet installed, get's brought to the meet and your friends help you install it. It's a good way to get your y-pipe, or CAI or ? installed and make some new friends.
BLACKonBLACK98 has been working on trying to find a location with at least 2 hoists. Preferably a shop that the group could basically rent for the day. Depending on how many braces sell, we may need to prep a few cars the night before. Sean is a pretty good welder but we would just show perhaps gbmax, how we do it then help others. Sean is an expert y-pipe installer and if there are quite a few braces and exhaust stuff to be put on, Mike could fly along as well to help out. Nothing is written in stone. More details as the planning continues.
Please remember we make quite a few different braces so please pass the word to the B13 & B15 Sentra, Altima, Eclipse, Grand Prix, Supra guys that we will be there to assist. We will be releasing several others by then.
Please let me know what else TMS can do. Looking forward to meeting a whole bunch of guys, drinking a few cold ones. BTW, we are also planning on doing the same at Maxus in Chicago in June of 08. This year they are trying to organize Maxima road racing!!!!!!!!!
Dan TMS

i'm trying to set up something pretty big. details will be released as they become available. the more interest you guys show, the more interesting it should be. i am using this thread as a reference for parties interested/involved so give it a "+1" or a "sounds cool" or something to show your support.
I'm interested as time allows...
I may be able to line up a shop for the install stuff too, but it depends on how many people we get together.. Their shop is good size, but parking is an issue.

Awesome, I hope you can participate. I've made contact with a shop that can hopefully do it, but having options is always a good thing. Shoot me a PM, I'd like to hear any suggestions you have as well as run a couple things by you.
i'd just like to note that it will depend on what arrangment we can make with the shop as to how installations are handled. dan's "bombing party" sounds ideal, but we will have to find a shop that will agree to it.

well at least a CAI.. lol

you do realize a CAI is an all-day project unless you have a plasma cutter, right?
(thus the reason doing it at a shop w/ plasma would be great).
Black, my buddy's shop has... hmmm 3 two-post lifts and a 4 post lift/alignment rack. could definitely do the SFC installs there but it depends on what youv'e got for a source and how many cars we're looking at.

I have some headers and a Y-pipe that i have been ecthing to install but not sure if i can wait that long. Wanted to get some AGX's for the rear but i am not sure how soon i will ubtain them.
20" Max, after communicating with Brian Catts, it is my understanding that headers take 4+ hours or so. It seems to me a good idea not to do a major project like this during an event like a "bombing party". It really is going to depend on who shows up, facilities available and the mechanical ability of the participants.
Matt's garage sounds pretty good. Perhaps if there is a parking issue we could find a staging area near by so there would be enough room to work on the cars being readied for the hoist, and not block up the shop. Anyone down there know if it is possible to rent a garage like Matt's and allow the participants to fully participate? It sounds to me there could be a legal/insurance issue and it might be required to have a one/two days event insurance policy?? Perhaps one of you Houston guys is an Insurance agent??
This is really starting to sound like fun but it is also smelling like a fair amount of work. Sean, Mike and I will be offering a special Houston rate for the event. No figures yet. I can tell you that because we will be shipping the chassis and fender braces, we are going to require at least 3-4 weeks notice. Just so we can get them all welded up and then powder coated and shipped. Even if you don't want them installed or we have too many to install and it can logistically be done, we will give the same rate. By shipping them there on a pallet, my guess is we can do it for less than the typical $35 shipping we usually charge.
Again, even if we don't sell one set of braces, we are coming. For you guy's with y-pipes to install, this is going to be a golden opportunity. Mike and Sean installed lot's of them when they worked at the shop in Arkansas. I have also done a few.

that sounds perfect. i was following another lead because of some extra capabilities, but i haven't heard back yet.
i'm not exactly sure what you mean by a source. we could basically schedule the installs once we got a little deeper into this and people started commiting to buy. other installs would be done based on availability i guess. for instance, give dan the 4 post, any other participating manufacturers their own 2 post, while leaving at least one open for members installing their own (previously purchased) upgrades. sounds fair to me...
also, assuming you can make it, feel free to throw your products out there. i'm sure a few members would like to upgrade their braking and suspension.

Dan, thought you were in Brazil with the new wife.
Oh, by the way, Mike may have helped with a couple installs but all our SFC installs were done while Sean was in High school before he got dropped off by the bus. He only worked after school a couple days a week, mostly sweeping the floors.

what is the point your trying to make?
loverholic- power steering ...ouch dude. that is my most feared spot to work on.
power steering pump isn't that bad... at least on a 3 gen. it's messy, but not difficult.
The 4 post lift is the alignment rack at my friend's shop. I'll call him tomorrow and see if he's willing to come in on a Sat for this. there might be a 'flat fee' for him to come in, but he's usually good about doing stuff like this for the clubs (and for me)...
albeit, the only tools available will be the welder, lifts, air tools, and anything the mechanics are personally working on.. any hand tools and such will be put away and off-limits to non-employees. I've seen too many tools walk away from these types of events, and I don't want that to happen to them. (not to say any of you will be stealing stuff, but................) Basically you'll just need to bring your own hand tools for the installs you'll want to do on your own.

eh i donno, the steering pump on my car..if i had to mess with it I think I might pull the freakin motor. (dont let me discourage anyone though im just exaggerating)
im definitely in for the alignment, I wont be taking any lift time unless I buy something like the SFC's but I'm in for the meet, etc.

let me know what your friend says. if theres a fee we'll get it taken care of (within reason of course). we really can't expect anybody to work for free.
as for tools, i agree 100%. not that anyone would necessarily steal them but hand tools seem to walk away pretty easily.
Exactly.. we're all honest people for the most part, but any time you have an event like this, parts and tools always seem to walk away.
I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if he's up for it.
He was willing to do it for the Z Club a while back, but he's been a member of the club for 20 years... bit different story.
Chillin... the alignment rack is the same rack they'll be using for SFC installs. if you just need an alignment, we can probably work that in either early or late in the day. let the TMS guys come in and do their SFCs and stuff in one run, and you cna do the alignment while they're not on it since they take quite a bit of time.
Also.. I just thought of this... how many 4-5 gen guys are interested in doing the rear beam bending? I don't know the guy that does them myself, but I know he'll come in and do it for events like this if you have XX people paid up beforehand.
unfortunately he'd need the same 4 post lift as TMS.. but it's a thought if people want it.

If theres time I am more than willing and capable of helping installing almost anything you guys want done. The meet isn't for just sfcs. sway bars, strut bars, cold air intakes, exhaust, coilovers, traction bars, or just about anything someone would like a hand with I'm willing to help out. Selling some braces is a plus.
I am going to see about getting some other cars in as well to help support our cost if thats alright with Michael.

yeah, i may just do it in my free time, just thought i would just cast the line out and see if i would get a bite.

I would rather you wait until the event got a little closer and see where we're at. I want the "Houston Maximas" guys to get top priority. For instance, if for some reason the Altima or Sentra guys jump on it early they will be expecting the lift time, which could keep some of my guys from getting their installations done. It is our meet after all. Since everything will be pre-sold (I'm assuming) we can estimate the time, and if there is some unfilled, you could fill it as the event got closer.
